Edison was born on Feburary 11 in 1847. He was born in Milan, Ohio. Thomas was the youngest of the seven children his parents had (refrence.com). -
Rebel of Abd al-Qadir
And al-Qadir led a rebellion in 1847. Qadir was a Muslim. He led a rebellion because he felt that Muslims where being treated unfairly (Smithsnian 302). -

The Taiping Rebellion was one of the most important event that took place in China in the nineteenth century. The rebellion started because the leader Hong Xiugan had new religious beliefs. This rebellion led to the civil war in China (Smithsonian 304). -

In 1854, the first telegraph line in Australia was opened. This was extremely helpful to the settlers of Australia because Australia was large, open land that is far away from every where else. This gave the settler the ability to send messages to people living in other places fast though (Smithsonian 305) -

The wars of Italian unification where fought from 1858 to 1870. They where fought in order to attempt to unify Italy. For most of the wars fought during this time Italy had a alliance with Prussia and where fighting against Austria (Smithsonian 307) -
Early attempts to lay Transatlantic telgraph cable
In 1858, people started to attempt to lay a transatlantic telegraph cable but failed. Had this worked thought the cable would have been laid underneath the Atlantic ocean . It would have been used to send messages over seas (Smithsonian 307). -
Edison saved a little boy's life and learned to telegraph
One day young 15 year old Edison was waiting for a train and caught sight of a little boy on the tracks. The train was speeding towards the little boy and he was going to get hit so Edison jumped on to the tracks and grabbed the little boy and saved his life. The little boy's dad didn't have any money to offer Edison to thank him so instead offered to teach Edison to telegraph (Asimov 130). -
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle of Gettysburg was fought over the span of 3 days in 1863. This battle was the largest battle during the American revolution. This battle was devastating because many people died during it (Smithsonian 309) -
Edison patented his first invention
In 1868 Edison patented his first invention. At the time he was living in Boston. His first invention was a stock ticker. This invention was very helpful at the time because it could be used to count votes in congress (History.com). -
Edison moves to Boston
In 1868 Edison moved to Boston. He was 21 years old when he moved. While living in Boston Edison worked as a telegraph operator. Edison started to work on his first invention while he was living in Boston also (Asimov 131). -
Moved to New York City
In 1869, Edison left Boston and headed to New York City. Edison moved to NYC in hopes of finding a job. When he got it NYC he got another job as a telegrapher (Asimov 131). -
Set up lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey
In 1876, Edison decided he wanted to set up so lab so he moved to Menlo Park, New Jersey. In Menlo Park he started a lab. In his lab he came up many inventions and improved inventions of other scientists to make them more effective (Asimov 132). -
Edison set up a long lasting light bulb
In 1879, Edison set up the first ever long lasting light bulb. Edison's light bulb could burn for 40 continuous hours. This helped the world greatly because at the time the lights that existed couldn't burn for anymore then a few hours (Byers 207). -
Edison patented his long lasting light bulb
After Edison first set up his long lasting light bulb in 1879 he continued to work on it to improve. He finally patented it 4 years late in 1883. The people of this time where very excited for this product because a light that could burn for forty continuous hours was in heard of at the time (Byers 207) -
Edison died
Edison died in 1931. After Edison s death he was not just forgotten about though. This is because Edison Had a major impact in the advancement of technology. He invented or helped improve many items that where the first steps to technology advancing (World Book 402)
