The Groovy 70s

  • The VCR

    The VCR made by Sony came out in 1971. The work was based off previous developments made by Charles Ginsberg. With the development of the VCR people were able to view movies at home and record television shows for later viewing. This technology was also able to change how home movies were filmed and stored.
  • The First Email

    The first email was not sent by internet, but on a system called ARPANET. This first email sent in 1971 was made by Ray Tomlinson. The invention of the internet has really streamlined long distance communication. It has really changed the way people communicate.
  • Word Star

    Wordstar was a word processor program developed for Micropro International by a man named Rob Barnaby. This was really the kicks tarter for many other word processing programs to come. This invention has revolutionized how we write, eventually taking the place of the electric type writers.
  • The Aliens Are Coming

    Space Invaders was the first video game of it's kind with a fixed shooter position. This game created by Toshihiro Nishikado changed the way video games were played and inspired the gaming industry we have today.
  • Music to Go

    Nono Ohga was instrumental in developing the Sony Walkman for the CEO of Sony who wanted to listen to music while he traveled. This early mobile music device launched a race for for more portable music, making our everyday activities more enjoyable.
