The knowledge that we know on theater is strictly off of archaeologist studies and guessing. There was no single type or style but there was different elements that contributed. A steeply raked seating theatron was called theatron. Another piece is the skene which is behind the orchestra it's used as the stage house. Another element is the paraskenia it's two long high walls that extend on either sides parallel to the skene. But the most interesting is a basket platform known as the machina.

    Roman Theatre
The roman theatres were mostly modified Greek theatres. They had one major exception they had a roof because they were built on flat land and not into a hill like the greek predecessor. The roofs were extended between the scene fons and the edge of the proscenium. Another difference is that the scene orchestra and auditorium were remade into one structure. Elevators were used in a lot of theatres like the most famous one the Colosseum. They were to move actors props and sometimes animals.

Platform stages were generally across from the church so that the audience would in hopes be moved by the production and join the church. Occasionally, these platform stages were mounted on wagons, making them pageant wagons, which were pulled from town to town to perform the plays. The sets were composed of small buildings that depicted locations appropriate to the bible stories.

Production becoming more realistic the shape of theaters started to change to support the new form. The Théâtre Libre, founded by André Antoine in Paris, and the Moscow Art Theatre, founded by Konstantin Stanislavski and Vladimir Nemerovich- Danchenko, were but two of the leading groups in this movement.
