Chapter 1
It was one of those extremely cold winter days and the Watsons were bundling up on the couch with Byron (oldest child) not letting anyone touch him because it wasnt "cool'. Momma was the only one who wasnt born in Flint, Michigan, so it was coldest to her. -
Chapter 2
Kenny sits behind the bus driver because he is getting bullied because of his lazy eye. Just when Kenny thinks he is all alone on the bus, two new people (Rufus and Cody) come on the bus and sit with Kenny. At first, Kenny dosent exactly want to be Rufuses friend, but Kenny wants to make him feel welcome and realizes that Rufus isn't as bad as he thought. At the end of this chapter, Kenny says "Why would god send me a savior in such raggety clothes?" -
Chapter 3
Kenny finds a new friend (Rufus) to play with the little plastic dinosaurs. He dosent play with his old friend, LJ, anymore because he noticed that some of his dinosaurs were strangely disappearing. -
Chapter 4
Its still winter and Momma is making all of the Watson children dress in about ten layers of clothes. Kenny has nice and expensive gloves that Momma buys two for each child a year, but Kenny sees Larry Dunn, the biggest bully at school, with his gloves. Rufus points it out to Kenny, but he says "No, my gloves were brown, Larry's are black.' Eventually, Kenny and Rufus find out that Larry did steal his gloves, except he covered them in black shoe polish. -
Chapter 5
Momma caught Byron playing with matches, and she said, "If I catch you with them one more time, you get burned." Byron and Kenny were playing dinosaurs and some matches fell out of Byron's pocket right when Momma walked in. She kept her promise, and dragged him downstairs by the ear, sat him down in the living room, and brought out the matches. Kenny and Joey were both watching but right when Momma lit a match, Joey ran over and blew it out. -
Chapter 7
Byron comes home one day with a hat and hankercheif over his head.of course, everyone is suspicious. Momma walks right over to him and whips it off, and her and Kenny are speechless. Byron had gone and dyed his hair and made it slick back with some parts sticking out like a porcupine. Everyone knew that Dad wasnt going to take this lightly. -
Chapter 8
Dad takes everyone ouside for a little suprise in their Brown Bomber (dad's car). Momma is suspicious, but it turns out to be a great suprise. Dad has put in a drive-around record player. -
Chapter 9
The Watsons are going to Birmingham, Alabama beacause Grandma Sands lives there and Byron can be taught a lesson so they wont have to put up with any of his trouble anymore. The drive takes about three days so they get to switch off with who gets to play their song in the record player. -
Chapter 13
Kenny and his family are taking a walk down to a lake in Birmingham. Byron and Kenny both see a sign that says 'WAENING! NO TRESPASSING! NO SWIMMING! NO PUBLIC ENTREE!'. Kenny decides to go in but Byron tries to scare him by saying that there is a "Wool pool", but Kenny dosent beleive him. -
Chapter 14
Byron suddenly sprints in to the house and Kenny is very confused. Noobody is in the house, and Byron says, "A guy just came by and said that there was a bomb dropped on Joey's church." The world around Kenny seemed to freeze and everything was all in his mind.
