Vietnamese celebrate Victory Over the French
Vietnamese forces came into the French command post and the French orders them to cease fire. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and this battle lasted 55 days. thousands of French Troops were killed, with thousands more wounded. In the end the Vietnamese became victorious over france after this war had ended, resulting in their celebration. -

China's Atomic Bomb
This significant moment in history is something we all have talked or heard about. This is when China, who's was allies with North Vietnam, successfully tests an atomic bomb. -
American Aircraft Burning at Bien Hoa
Right before the presidental election, Bien Hoa Air Base near Saigon, Vietcong mortars shelled that base. 4 americans were killed with more than 70 wounded. At least five B-57 bombers were destroyed and another 15 damaged. -
U.S Helicopter Base and Advisory Compound Attacked
A U.S. helicopter base and advisory compound was attacked by NLF commandos in South Vietnam. 9 Americans were killed but more than 70 were wounded. After this, President Johnson issues orders of immediate importance by having U.S. Navy fighter-bombers attack military targets inside North Vietnam. -
Bombing in Qui Nonh Hotel
In a hotel in Qui Nonh 23 American servicemen were killed by an Vietcong placed bomb explosion. the significance of this is knowing that Americans at this time were not safe at all. They were going to do whatever they possibly can kill Americans. -
American Campaign Against North Vietnam
Americans started to campaign against North Vietnam. During this time, the Navy and Air Force planes started to hit bridges, road and rail junctions, as well as truck stops and supply depots. -
U.S. Offers Peace Exchange
The U.S. offers North Vietnam in exchange for peace, economic aid. Unfortunately the offer is rejected thus results in President Johnson raising combat strength. 60,000 U.S. troops were sent overseas. In addition, Korea and Australia were added as allies for international support. -

Battle of La Drang
The Barrle of La Drang started with the North Vietnamese Army attacked a Special Forces camp at Plei Mei. the U.S. 1st Air Calvary is sent against them creating this battle. This last for 35 days creating Battle of La Drang that lasted from November 14th to the 18th in 1965. -
Operation Junction City
Being one of the largest air-moible assaults, 240 helicopters come over Tay Ninh province. This operation was called Junction City. the idea of Operation Junction city was to destroy Vietcong bases and the military headquarters. This last 72 days and thousands of men injured. -
Operation Rolling Thunder Comes to an End
Operation Rolling thunder started three and a half years ago on February 13th, 1965. On this day it comes to an end. 818 pilots were either dead or missing while hundreds more were in captivity. -
President Nixon Takes Office
On this day, Inaugeration day, Richard M. Nixon takes office. While taking office he shed some light on Vietnam stating how he wanted to achieve "Peace With Honor". With this goal in mind and how intense it was over in Vietnam his goal is important because of the hope it brings for Americans. -
American Bases in South Vietnam Attacked
Assault teams and artillery attacked American bases all over South Vietnam. 1,140 Americans were killed. During the time towns and cities all over south Vietnam were also being destroyed. I find this important because of the timing. Only a month after president Nixon takes office things started to get intense over in Vietnam. -
Peace Talks in the Works
This is the beginning of the peace talks in Paris between North Vietnamese and the U.S marking this a significant time in history because in the end their could be a peace agreement that comes into place if everyone is on the same page. A nerve racking moment in time. -
Cease Fire in Signed
After some time negotiation to come up with a proper peace agreement, all warning parties in the War finally signed a cease fire, meaing a truce as come in order. The level of importance here is tremendous because they marks a time were every party finally agreed on something, which probably was a far fetched idea at the time. -
President Nixon Resigns
On this day, President Nixon resigns from office. This leaves South Vietnam without an advocate for the upcoming events that happen throughout next year of the Vietnam War. The importance of this is the U.S. pulling out of the war. -
The War is Finally Over
North Vietnamese tanks came into Saigon, ending the war. Within this 15 year span of fighting a quarter of a million South Vietnamese soldiers died along with thousands of civilians.
