Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
The Tonkin Golf Resolution was passed by Congress and proposed by President Lyndon B Johnson in Aug. 5 1964. Two American boats were detroyed near the coast of Vietnam by North Vietnamese Torpedo boats. The purpose of the resolution was to have President Johnson approve and determine the necessary measures of actions to take so that further aggression against the U.S. troops would be put to stop. Tet Offensive
The Tet offensive was a massive surprise attack by Vietcong on South Vietnamese town and cities early in 1968. On January 30, 1968, the villagers were taking advantage of the the new year by celebrating but at the same time they also held funerals for war victims. Mai Lai Massacre
The Mai Lai massacre occurred in March 12, 1968. Mai Lai was a village of 700 people and it was 100 miles southeast of the U.S. base Danang. On march 16 three platoon US were sent to investigate. They were told that members from the Vietcong were active in the area. The soldiers from 1 platoon had moved through the village and fired shots at the villagers. Martin Luther King Jr. Assasination
The assassination of Martin Luther King was on 6:01 p.m. of April 4 1968. He had been standing on the balcony of his hotel room in Memphis when he was shot. He was shot by a man named James Earl Ray. -
Kent Sate University Incident
May 4, 1970
The Kent State University is also know as the May 4 massacre. The massacre took place in Ohio's Kent State University. Students were protesting the Cambodian Campaign set by President Nixon. The guardsmen fire shots killing four students and wounding nine others. As many of 4 million students joined the strike after causing many universities, colleges, and high schools to close. -

Christmas Bombing
Presdient Nixon announced the "Christmas Bombings" in the North Vietnam cities. On December 13, peace talks between the United States and North Vietnam collapsed. President Nixon ordered plans drawn up for retaliatory bombings of North Vietnam. They had dropped over 20,000 tons of bombs. THe bombing continued until December 29. -
The Fall of Saigon and the end of The Vietnam War
After the capture of Siagon, South Vietnam, North Vietnamese forces took over on April 30 1975. However, As early as the end of March. US were withdrewing troops already, fearing that the North Vietnamese would kill them too. Thoroughout April, the evacuations increased. The North Vietnamese kept getting closer to the city, and eventually taking over. The South vietnamese forces were defeated. Vietnam because a country controlled by communism.
