Trying to end Guerrilla Warfare
Operation Ranchhand was mean to clear vegetation alongside highways. This would make it harder for the Vietcong to conceal themselves during ambushes. This war has been very hard for Americans so far because of the unfamiliar land. The forest was sprayed with "Agent Orange" and eventually guerrilla trails and bases were exposed. -
Operation Chopper
U.S. helicopters flown by Army pilots were able to sweep a stronghold near Saigon. This was America's first combat mission against the Vietnamese. -

Operation Rolling Thunder
This operation authorized a limited but long lasting bombing offensive tactic. The goal of this operation was to stop North Vietnam from supporting Vietcong guerrillas in South Vietnam. -
American Troops sent to Vietnam
The first United States Army combat soldiers were sent to Vietnam. -

American Combat Soldiers Leaving Vietnam
The last American combat soldiers leave South Vietnam. The war is oficially over. Over three million Americans served in the war. 58,000 are dead and 150,00 are wounded. -
