    How it all started!
    It all started in 1831 when some nationalist forces rebelled against thier forgien rulers. In Parma and Modena but the uprising were crushed. The same thing occured in 1848. Since Austria and France wanted a divided and poorly Italy they made sure to keep the rebels down.

    Cavour became prime minister of Sardinia the kingdom included the island of Sardinia and the piedmont region of Northern Italy. He was clever and knew how to fight in wars and in conflicts.He used national alliance to achieve his goal of uniting the rest of Italy to Sardinia. He fromed a friendship with France.Later on Northern Italy joined all the other Italian States.

    with Garibaldi’s full support, they held an election throughout the states of southern Italy to decide whether the people were ready to join the northern states and Sardinia as a unified nation. The nation was officially united in 1861; the king of Sardinia was crowned Victor Emmanuel II of Italy later that year. Plans were coming together as you can see.

    Garibaldi comes into thier lives!
    Garibaldi led an invasion of his followers, the Red Shirts, into the kingdom of Sicily, ostensibly to join a popular uprising. He liberated sicily and Naples with the help of Cavour. Even though they both had different beliefs they both worked together to try to unite Italy and they slso made plans.

    The unified Italy would steal the pope's aouthority as of head of the state. They made as many more meetings possible and made changes in thier goverment such as taxes and by challenging the pope there would be conflicts along with that but Cavour thought it was best to say it was a unified nation but there was still pieces missing to become a unified nation/country.

    When France declared war on Prussia in 1870, occupying French troops abandoned Rome. This left the pope undefended, and the Italian army immediately marched in to complete the unification process. Which left the prime minister in 1929 to signing it as an independent country so now we have italy hooray!
