A political and diplomatic episode that began when a diplomatic commission from America was sent to France to negotiate a solution to problems that were threatening to turn into war. the foreign french minister demanded bribes and a loan before negotiating.the americans were offended by the demands and left without formal negotiations. This lead to the Quasi-war between France and America -
convention of 1800
this was also known as the Treaty of Mortefontaine between America and France, It terminated the 1778 agreements, confirmed the free trade, free goods principle between the two countries, and put a end to the Quasi-war. this re-established french-american relations and ultimately helped cause the louisiana purchase. -

a trade embargo that prohibited American ships from trading in all foreign ports as an attempt to stop Britain from its impressment of American sailors and both France and Britain's targeting of American ships. -

an American policy that opposed European colonialism in the U.S. and stated that any further attempts from european countries to take control of any independent state in america would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition towards America. it also said that the U.S. would recognize and not interfere with existing European colonies nor meddle in the internal affairs of European countries.
