    Wedding of King Pelius and Thetis

    Zeus was very much in love with Thetis but in order to avoid getting dethroned by their son Zeus arranged a marriage for Peleus and Thetis which would later on have a son Achilles. Peleus had no complaint and agreed to the arrangement however, Thetis refused him. The wedding took place on Mount Pelion. Eris, the goddess of discord, had not been invited. For spite she threw a golden apple into the midst of the goddesses: Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena that was to be awarded only "to the fairest."

    Judgment of Paris

    This was a contest between the three most beautiful goddesses of Olympos: Aphrodite, Hera, Athena for the prize of the golden apple addressed "to the fairest." All of this began in the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. Zeus was asked to mediate so he commanded Hermes to lead the goddesses to Paris of Troy to decide. Each goddess offered a gift to the shepherd prince for favour. Aphrodite was chosen because she promised him the most beautiful woman Helen as his wife.

    Paris visits King Menelaus of Sparta

    Paris visits Helen wife of Menelaus of Sparta and took her and kept her in Troy. She was welcomed and her name was soon changed to Helen of Troy.

    In the tenth year of the war Chryseis the daughter of Chryses a priest of Apollo, was abducted because she was the war prize for the Achaeans. Agamemnon decided that she should be his because of her beauty so therefore took her but Achilles requested that he should just give her back.

    Prayer for Chryseis return

    Chryses proposed a generous ransom for Chryseis but Agamemnon rejected it. Chryses then prayed to Apollo for Chryseis return and Apollo had listened to his prayer.
