Emmet was born as Emma Grace. Her parents were elated to bring a healthy baby girl into the world. -
Emmet tells parents he's a boy
At 3 years old, Emma tried to convince her parents she was a boy. Due to her young age, Emma's parents decided she had not figured out what it meant to be a boy or girl yet. Emmet never rembebered this. -
Emmet's 5th Birthday
Despite push from Emmas parents for a princess themed party, she was dead set on a Spiderman themed party. In the end, Emma won and her entire preschool class was invited. She avoided the other girls, and played with the boys in her class. -
Emmet's first day of first grade
For Emma's first day of school, her mother wanted her to wear a pretty pink dress. Emma would not have it. She fought her mother for the ability to wear her plain basketball shorts and a tee shirt. Eventually, her mother gave in and let her wear what she wanted to school. -
Emmet's first crush
Emma's fourth grade class had a Valentine's Day party. Everyone decorated boxes and brought in a class set of valentines. Emma brought dinosaur notes for everyone, except one girl. Emma's first crush was that girl. Emma gave her candy hearts. -
Emmet gets a hair cut
Before summer vacation, Emma cuts off her long hair and begins to sport a short pixie cut. Her confidence rises with her new boyish hair. -
Emmet's first bra
In sixth grade, Emma got her first bra. She went into denial. Emma refused to believe that her body changes were the natural effects of puberty. She made sure to only wear baggy shirts so that no one could tell how she was shaped. -

Emmet is bullied
In her seventh grade year, Emma is bullied for the way she dressed. Her classmates make fun of her short hair and baggy clothes. Looking back, Emmet says it was one of the hardest parts of his life. -
Emmet questions sexuality
During summer camp in between 8th and 9th grade, Emma meets a girl from another city that she thought was very cool. Emma quickly falls for the girl and realizes that she probably is not straight. Before the girl from camp, her only other crush had been the girl in her fourth grade class. She realizes this means that she likes girls and not boys. -
Emmet comes out to his friends
While hanging out with her friends, Emma decides to tell them that she is lesbian. Emma personally doesn't believe that is exactly how she feels, but knows that she is closer to being herself. -
Emmet learns what it means to be trans*
Near the end of her freshman year, Emma learns what it means to be trans*. She notices an attachment to the identity, but denies that its what she is. -
A child questions Emmet's gender
While on a family vacation, one of Emma's distant cousins asks her if shes a girl or boy. The child, no older than 5, doesn't try to offened, just curious. Emma answers that she is a girl who dresses like a boy, but feels like she is lying to the kid. -
Emmet questions his gender
After being asked what her gender is, Emma is confused. She begins to question whether or not she might actually be a transgender boy. -
Emmet Realizes he is trans
Near the end of her sophomore year, Emma finally concludes that she is a trans boy. She decides that when she comes out, she'll go by Emmet. Until then, she remains Emma. -
Emmet comes out
After years of feeling uncomfortable as a girl, Emma tells her parents that she believes she is really transgender. Although they are disapointed and a little skeptical, they accept her decision and respect that she now wants to be called Emmet. -
Emmet turns 18
Over a year after coming out, Emmet is finding life easier living as a boy. He does research all about the transition process from female to male and starts planning his own transition. -
Emmet gets top surgery
As a present to himself, Emmet goes under the knife for a hysterectomy. By getting his breasts removed, his transition to male begins. -
Emmet starts hormones
At 24, Emmet begins taking testosterone supplements. He had been seeing a therapist for a few months, and finally got the letter needed in order to get a prescription. -
One year on T
Emmet's body changes are noticible at this point. He essentially goes through a second puberty, He legally changes his name from Emma to Emmet and gets a new passport and liscense. -
Two years on T
Emmets second puberty begins to reach its end. His voice is deep, his body hair is thicker, he no longer menstruates, and his features become more masculine.
