Inspiration in Theatre
Tim Curry was inspired to go into theater by meeting writer Richard O'Brien while performing in the West End production of Hair in 1968. Curry made his professional acting debut in Hair as Woof. He later appeared in a Scottish opera company tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream. -
Tim Curry's first Theatre role
Tim Curry's first role in theatre was in a play called "Danton's Death" in 1971. He played a character named "Lacroix". This play was located in the Glasgow Citizen’s Theatre. -
Tim Curry moves over to Texas
Tim Curry moved to Austin, Texas at the age of 19. He was a member of the World of Pentecost Church Choir from 1972-1984, and traveled around the United States with them. During this time, he also formed a band with church members called Street Band. -
Tim starts off his theatre career.
In 1973, he was invited by Richard O’Brien, a fellow cast member from Hair (Tim in the West End cast and O’Brien in the touring cast), to audition for O’Brien’s new experimental musical The Rocky Horror Show, to be produced at the Royal Court’s Theatre Upstairs. Tim’s audition song was Tutti Frutti. -
Tim films in The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show was filmed in 1974. The film remains a cult phenomenon over 45 years later and has helped cement Tim’s status as a pop icon to generations of fans. -
Broadway
Tim Curry's first Broadway show was The Rocky Horror Show, which ran from March 10 to April 6, 1975. Curry originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, which he later reprised in the Los Angeles production and the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. -
