    The Lost Colony
    In 1587,John White(with his family) and Simon Fernandez were sent to the New World to start a settlement on Roanoke Island. A little time after they settled, Mr.Smith and Simon Fernandez left to get supplies from England.There was a Spanish invasion going on and it took them two years to get back to Roanoke.There was no one there when they arrived, but the word CROATOAN was carved into a tree.John White never saw the settlers again.
  • Jamestown

    In 1607, John Smith lead over one hundred men to James River, Virginia. After the winter though, only 60 men survived. The chief of the Powhatan nation captured Mr.Smith and was going to kill him, but Pocahontas saved Mr. Smith's life. In 1619, Jamstown had the House of Burgesses the first elected assembly.
  • Indentured Servants

    Indentured Servants
    In 1619, people who didn't have enough money to go to the New World would be someone's servant until they could pay off the money.Other indentured servants had paid for their trip to the New World, but wanted a piece of land, so they worked on a piece of land for the person who owned it, gave the prophets to the owner, and then the owner would give the piece of land to the person that was working on it.
  • Mayflower

    In 1620, over one hundred people sailed over to the New World. They were planning to go to Jamestown in Virginia, but a storm got them off course and they landed on Massachusetts Bay. They traveled across the bay and settled at a place they named Plymouth Rock.

  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    In 1621, the settlers of Plymouth Rock Made a document to show loyalty to the king, keep order, and develop laws. The Mayflower Compact was the start of democracy.
  • Squanto

    Squanto
    In 1621, A Native American named Samoset who lived in the Wampanoag tribe came to Plymouth rock.Hebrought another Native named Squanto. Squanto taught the settlers a lot like how to hunt animals, get sap from maple trees, find shellfish, which plants were poisoness, and how to grow crops with bad soil.He also helped the settlers by forming an alliance with the Wampanoag tribe.
  • First Thanksgiving

    First Thanksgiving
    In 1621, after Squanto and Samoset helped the settlers in Plymouth rock,the settlers had so much food, so they invited Squanto, ChiefMassasoit (the leader of the Wampanoag tribe), and 90 other tribe people.Since the settlers were Protestant, Thanksgiving was for prayer and fasting.

    William Penn
    William Penn is a Quaker who believed that colonists should live peacefully with Native Americans. In 1681, King Charles the second owed William's father money but instead gave William land. William named this land Pennsylvania and made it so that anyone with any religion could live there.
  • Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania
    Pennsylvania was founded in 1681 by William Penn. Sylvania means woods, and Penn is the last name of the founder. Pennsylvania was in the middle colonies and had relious freedom.
