the protesting began in 1963 in Saigon when a Buddhist monk sat down in the public square and set himself on fire. after that more monks followed suit. protests continued and where joined by american citizens in early 1968 (40,000 american soldiors where dead by this time and 250,000 where wounded) No end whas in sight. however the slogan "We Wont Go" had been widly publisized since 1969. in 1965 thousands of employees left In 1967 there where organized draft-card "turnins" all over the contry. -

Acording to McNaughton this would create a counterproductive "wave" that would halt the revolution. he warned the the us population and the rest of the world would have a limit to how far the US is permitted to go. Slaughter of inhabitants of My Lai by american soldiors
a company of american soldiors entered My Lai in the Quang Ngai provence on march 16 1968 and rounded up the inhabitants including elderly women and childrenand ordered them into a ditch where they where all shot to death. 450 to 500 people mostly women children and older men where burried in mass graves. -
