On december 1st 1955 over 4,000 African Americans lead by Martin Luther King refused to ride the buses at Montgomery alabama. Only four days before this Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white man. -

On May 17th 1956 racial segregation in public schools was declared unconstitutional, still many states still found new ways to not desegregate schools. -
Greensbro Sit-ins
On Feburary 1st 1960 four collage students went into a segegated dinner and sat at the booth, as a peaceful protest. they continued to go to the dinner and sit at the booth intill the dinner was desegergated. -
Kings Assassination
On April 4, 1968, Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. He had been standing on the balcony in front of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, when, he was shot. -
Busing in Charlootte
On April 28th 1968 a federal judge ordered the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district to use buses to speed up integration of schools. It was a non violent protest.
