    Alexander Graham bell invents the first telephone, and get the first patent for it. This launched the telephone era. At the time, the technology was unlike anything seen during that time period.

    The Candlestick phone was seperated into two pieces. It had a base which you spoke into, and a earpiece to listen. This phone died out in the 1930s, when the Rotary phone was invented.
  • The Rotary

    This phone was the first to be combined into one piece. To dial, you would rotate the dial to the number you wanted. This was very tedious, but it allowed callers to make a wider range of calls.
  • The Push-Button

    AT&T introduced this phone in 1963. It was the first to use a keypad to dial numbers and make phone calls. Each key produced a frequency that was sent to a telephone operator, who directed your call.
  • Portable phones

    Portable phones were first introduced in the 1980s. It allowed you to walk freely around your house to talk, without a cord, but it could only make calls to other portable phones inside your house.

    The Nokia 5110 opened the door to cellphones. It was small enough to fit in your pocket, and it could make calls to anywhere in the world.
  • The iPhone

    The iPhone introduced smartphones to the world. It was the first phone to completely get rid of a keyboard, and use a touchscreen instead. Along with the touchscreen, the iPhone introduced many other applications ranging from Youtube to a calculator. The iPhone and other smartphones continue to update and enhance their products to this day.
