My great grandmother's birth.
In Göppingen, a town in southern Germany, my great grandmother Lina was born. Her parents were Christian Strobel and Magdalene Patmann. -
My great grandfather Carl.
In the same town, some years later, my great grandfather Carl was born. His parents were Marie Rosa Christiane Geyer Nagel and Karl Hermann Nagel. -
The jorney to a new begining.
Leaving behind the economic crisis that Germany was facing after World War I. My great grandfather Carl started a journey to a new begining. His hopes and dreams were on Argentina. -
Lina followed her dream.
Lina followed Carl's steps and arrived to Argentina. Now they were together and the idea of starting a family was on their minds. But first they needed to be in a stable economic situation. With hard work they did it. -
My grandmother Gertrud was born.
In Löwenstein-Reisach, on April 3rd, 1924, my grandmother, Gertrud Wilhelmine Wagner was born. Her parents were Jakob Wagner and Friedrike Eblinger. My great grandfather Jakob was born on March 21st, 1873 and my great grandmother Friedrike was born on September 24th, 1883. -
Starting a life together.
Carl and Lina got married on July, 10th, 1924 in Buenos Aires. Carl was twenty two years old and Lina was twenty four. -
Welcoming a baby boy.
A few months after their wedding, on February 28th, 1925 at twenty to five in the afternoon, they welcomed their first child, Edmundo Nagel. -
Study abroad.
With only fourteen years old. my grandfather Edmundo was sent to Germany to study. They didn't know that months later, Germany will be in war. -
World War II
In September 1939, Germany invaded Poland, that settled the beginning of World War II. At that moment my grandfather Edmundo was studying at a technical school but because of the war they transformed it into a NCO school.
In 1944 he fought in Holland. He was captured by american and mexican soldiers and he was taken to a concentration camp from which he could escape. -
Carl and Lina welcomed a baby girl.
While Edmundo was still in Germany, he recibed good news from Argentina. He had had a sister, Ana María. It will pass some years until he can know her. -
Certificate of discharge.
On June 16th, 1945, my grandfather obtained his discharge from the German Army. -
Love after war.
Years after the war my grandfather met my grandmother Gertrud. Some months later they got married in my grandmother's city. -
The Argentine repatriation mission.
After their wedding, my grandparents decided to establish themselves in Argentina. -
Back in Argentina
Again in Argentina, my grandfather could meet his sister for the first time, she was 6 years old. A few years after my grandparents established in Argentina, on December 19th, 1951, my grandmother gave birth to my father Carlos. -
A baby girl in the Nagel family.
Several years later, on the same day as my father, my aunt Ingrid was born.
As a child my father used to speak just German, so when he started first grade, of course at a German School, he had to learn Spanish.
When I remember my oma (grandma in German, that 's how I used to call her) I remember that she struggled with Spanish and she never got used to it, so she spoke a mix of both languages, German and Spanish. -
Celia and Guillermo had a baby girl.
My grandfather Guillermo Asenjo was born on June 29th, 1927 in San Rafael, Mendoza. My grandmother, Celia Maggi, was born on April 25th, 1935, in Buenos Aires. They got married on June 2nd, 1956. On March 30th, 1957, my mother Graciela was born. -
Carl's death
On the morning of May 6th, 1961, my grandfather was asked to go to my great grandfather's work because he was feeling sick. A few hours he died of a brain hemorrhage. He was only 57 years old. -
My parents got married.
After 3 years together my parents decided to get married. They did it on April 12th, 1980. The marriage was celebrated at Euskal- Echea's church. -
Carlos and Graciela welcomed a baby girl.
I was born here in Monte Grande, on January 7th, 1982. That noon my mother was feeling some pain but she didn't pay much attention to it. But my grandmother took her to the clinic. Before leaving she left a note on the fridge. It said "I went to the clinic but it's false alarm, don't worry". After reading the note my father rushed to the clinic. There he met my grandma that screamed hurry that the baby's coming. At twenty past five in the afternoon I was born. -
My baby brother.
I was 3 years old when my brother Gerardo was born. I was super jealous. When I went to the clinic with my father to take my mum and my new brother home, I said "OK mum let's go home, we'll come tomorrow to see him". Poor my little brother I did lots of thing to him when he was still a baby. -
Lina's death
On June 6th, 1986, when I was 4 years old my great grandmother died. I was young when she died but I had some nice memories about her. -
My oma Gertrud passed away.
After a long battle against Parkinson's disease, she passed away on January 14th, 1991. -
My grandfather's death
My grandfather was suffering from Alzheimer's. It was not nice to see him like that. There were days in which he didn't remember us. He was always taking about the past, how he felt during the war. Until that moment he never spoke of the war. I was on holidays when he passed away. -
My family today.
This is my family today. My mum and dad, my brother and my nephew Felipe.
