The Escape
On this date Mendaz rescued the diplomats and gave them credentials to pass the Irany border . When they arrived in Switzerland the diplomats were put into hiding and were not allowed to talk to the press in order to keep the other prisoners safe. -
Operation Eagle Claw
On the 24th of April the US government launch a rescue mission for the hostages. This mission failed when 3 of the helicopters had to turn around with mechanical problems, -
All hostages were returned
On January 20, 1981, as Ronald Reagan became President, the hostages were flown from Teheran to Europe, and on to New York.
The crisis was over.
