This would mark the end of The Great War and unknowingly begin the path to the next major world conflict. -
The Invasion of Manchuria
Japan invades Manchuria, a mineral and resource rich region that belonged to China. The League of Nations failed to prevent the invasion as the Japanese army refused to withdrawal troops from Manchuria. This would lead to ongoing disputes between Japan and their longtime trading partner, the United States of America. -
Hitler becomes Fuhrer
Once Hitler achieves the title of 'Fuhrer' he immediately sets out to destroy the terms of the Treaty of Versailles by re-arming Germany. -
Mussolini invades Abyssinia (Ethiopia)
In an attempt to expand the Italian Empire, Mussolini invades the rich oil regions of Abyssinia. Thousands of native Abyssinians are killed in the confrontation, and yet the League of Nations takes no decisive action. -
Hitler remilitarizes the Rhineland
As stated in the Treaty of Versailles, German troops were not to move within 50km of the Rhine river. Hitler sent forces here and no one stopped the advance. -
Mackenzie King visits the Fuhrer
The Canadian Prime Minister visits Hitler. It was later found in his diary that Mackenzie King had a number of very positive things to say about his visit. As a gift, Hitler gave the P.M. a portrait of himself seen here. -
Germany Annexes Austria (Anschluss)
German occupation of Austria takes place without a shot being fired. In order to avoid war, no one takes action against this unification (appeasement). -
Munich Agreement
Britain (Chamberlain) and France (Daladier) look to avoid war by appeasing Hitler's request to take control of the Sudetenland, the Western part of Czechoslovakia. -
Hitler occupies the rest of Czechoslovakia
Occupation of the Sudetenland left the rest of Czechoslovakia weak, allowing Hitler to move in and take over the rest of the country. -
The "Pact of Steel" is signed
The Rome-Berlin Axis is created to seal a pact of trust and cooperation between Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy -
The Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact is signed
Germany and the Soviet Union sign a non-aggression pact, promising not to fight each other in the event of war. They also agree to secretly divide Poland. Hitler can now proceed with his war plans without the fear of a two front war. -
The Nazi's invade Poland
Poland refuses to give back the Polish corridor to Germany. As a result Hitler invades Poland launching the Blitzkreig. Poland quickly falls. -
Britain and France Declare War on Germany
Upon the invasion of Poland, Britain and France declare was on Germany. Appeasement has clearly failed and WWII has begun. -
Canada declares war on Germany
The declaration is made without British influence on the decision. This is done to further our claim as an autonomous nation, while still showing our support of our closest allies.
