Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space
Last manned mission of the Vostok program, which puts Vostok 6 into orbit on June 16, 1963, with astronaut Valentina Tereshkova on board. She will be the first woman in space. The mission lasts almost three days, during which Vostok 6 circled 48 times the Earth. -
Venera III
The USSR launches this satellite on November 16, 1965, that aims to reach the surface of Venus. Three and a half months later, it becomes the first object to reach another planet. -
Apollo 8

Mariner 9
Mariner 9. The US launches this spacecraft on May 30, 1971, headed for Mars, to obtain information about the red planet. Mariner 9 became the first spacecraft to orbit around another planet. -
The end of the space race (Apollo-Soyuz)
Apollo-Soyuz. The competition comes to an end with the union in space of a Soviet spacecraft, the Soyuz 19, and a US spacecraft, the Apollo 18.
