Winner of a Prestigious Literary Contest!
Although it took Zora much longer to attend college, she found great success when she attended college. Zora won second place in the Columbia University Literary Contest. -
Field Research in Harlem!
She was asked to to field research in Harlem, New York City during the Harlem Renaissance. She went gladly! -
Zora and Harlem Would Never Be the Same!
She met Langston Hughes and collaborated several works together. Often her writing was not accepted and offended many people because of the strong opinion and language about race. -
Collaborated A Play Entitled, "Neal Bone."
Neal Bone was cancelled because the people who created it were arguing about who should get the credit over making it. -
Hurston's Career was Growing!
Zora's career was growing because of her essays and short storys were being published and recognized throughout the country by literary critiques. -
"Their Eyes Were Watching God" Was Published
She created a novel,but many people were not ready for her forward and strong story line and opinions, during this time period. -
Hurston Was Very Broke!
Although very well recognized and celebrated by certain groups of intellictuals, at the end of her life , Zora was broke. For that reason, she was forced to receive pubic assistance. -
Hurston Died
Hurston died because of heart disease and pennyless. Her estate could not even afford a tombstone to memorialize her.
