Union general, George B. McClellan, began attacks to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. Confederate forces were able to hold off the union before retreating. The Union returned later and advanced 600 yards. The Confederates had 66 killed, 362 wounded, and 13 missing. While the Union had 68 killed, 503 wounded, and 55 missing. #2 -

Battle of Mechanicsville
Lee decided to attack the union with the help from "Stonewall" Jackson. The Confederates were ready to attack but Jackson was running late and the signal was given anyway and the battle began. The union had the advantage of protection from the creek and artillary from high ground. When Jackson and his troops arrived he told them to set up camp instead of joining. They attempted to attack again at dusk but were defeated by the Union. The confederates suffered 1,400 casualties. #1 -
Battle of Gaines' Mill
Lee decided to attack the Union again behind a stream that was absent from Confederate maps. At dusk the battle turned from the Union to the Confederates favor. The battle was about 9 hours and described as one of the most intense battles of the civil war. The total casualties was about 15,000. It was a Confederate victory. #3 -
Garnett and Golding's Farm
After the battle of Gaines' Mill the Confederates attacked again near a farm in the morning. The Union over threw the Confederates with little loss on both sides, less than 800 total. #4 -
Savage Station
The Confederates attacked again about two miles away from Savage Station without the support of Jackson. They were vulnerable and outnumbered. The Union chose not the attack and withdrew but the Confederates formed at the edge of the woods where the union was heading. They fought in an open field until a rainstorm caused the union to withdraw. The Union suffered 919 casualties compared to the Confederates 450. #1 -
Battle of Glendale
Lee planned to cut off the Union from the James River. With intricate battle plans but poor execution the Confederates attacked the Union. Jackson failed to rebuild the bridge for the Confederates so they were trapped in the battle. McClellan managed to safely withdraw his troops three miles away. The Union suffered 3,800 casualties and the Confederates lost 3,700. #1 -
Malvern Hill
This was the final battle of the Seven Day Battle. The Union troops gathered at Malvern Hill and set up a sturdy battle plan. The confederates attack but again had very poor communication causing a Union victory. The Confederates had 5,650 casualties compared to the Unions 3,007. #1
