Russian diplomats meets with German diplomats and agree to a non-aggression pact. This came as a a surprise to Hitler because he was intially worried about Stalin and the Soviet forces. -

The Winter War
Soviet Forces invade Finland. Stalin did this for 2 mian reasons. Geograhphically, Finland was very close to German border. The city of Leningrad, one of Russia's major cities, was only 20 miles away from Finnish border. Russia was not very prepared for this invasion. The rest of the world saw that Russia was unprepared and Germany took notice of this weak Stalin. -
England elects Churchill
Britain elects new Prime Minister Winston Churchill to lead in the wake of a new war. -
German forces invade France, Belgium and Netherlands
German forces invade France and nighboring countries. The use of heavy armored warfare along with heavy artillary and massive amounts of ground troops and air support, the Blitzkreig is successful in this invasion. -
Miracle at Dunkirk
German forces are nearing Dunkirk where there are over 300,000 allied troops stationed. English troops and civilains are able to trainsport these troops safely back to England and avoid being captured by German forces. -
French Surrender
French leaders surrender to Hitler in the same railcare that the Germans surrenders to the French in 1919. After this, England was the only other nation that would oppose the Axis powers. -
Invasion of Britain
Germany plans on invading Britain. Massive air warfare. The bombing of England and London lasts all summer until September 15th when it reaches a climax. English resisitance is able to keep German forces at bay long enough for Hitler to focus his attention elsewhere. Herman Goering, head of Luftwaffe assures Hitler that after these bombings that Germany would no longer have to worry about England. Sparks idea of Invasion in Russia. -
Bombing London
German forces bomb London for 10 days, hoping that England will surrender. They do not. Churchill calls this their finest hour enduring this attack from Germany without surrendering. About 60,000 Britains die but Britain survived the summer of 1940. -
Germany invades Soviet Union
Germany forces surprise the Soviet Union by breaking the Pack between Germany and Russia and invading. Germany's operation Barbarossa. Hitler and the German's believe that Russia will fall easily after their struggle in the Winter War. -

The Soviet Union takes a big hit after Germany's invasion. It is critical that Russian Generals utilize their forces to the max. Order 227 does not allow Russian forces to retreat without direct orders during the invasion of Russia. -

Imperial Japan bombs American Forces at the base of Pearl Harbor. This serves as a acatalyst for America's particiaption in the war. -
Japanese Interment
2 months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, hysteria resulted in passing laws that would send Japanese Americans into Internment camps along the West Coast of the United States. -
LA Riots.
An incident between US sailors got into a fight with Zoot Suitors. For a week afterwards, sailors were roaming through urban nieghborhoods attacking Mexican Americans in Los Angeles. -
Battle at Kursk
Hitler attempts to attack Russian line of defense for a last battle on the Eastern Front. Reulted in the largest tank battle in history. Russian forces hold the line and Germany's armies are made to retreat. Intiates Furer Directive #51. -
Death of German Army Group Center
Soviet forces circle and consume Army Group Center. It wa meant to coincide with American and British landings in France. Series of 5 offensives to keep German army off balance. -
D-Day Invasion
The Allied forces storm the beaches of Normandy in order to set up a western front against Germany. A Major turning point in the war. -
July Bomb Plot
Count Claus Von Stauffenberg along with Helmuth Von Moltke and a number of officers form the Kreisau Circle and formulated a plot to assasinate Hitler. The failed attempt to kill Hitler in July of 1944 resulted in Hitler testing the loyalty of his army in operation Luttich. -
Operation Market Garden
Operation Market Garden was the end result between the debate of Montgomery and Eisenhower for the invasion of the Rhineland. Paratroopers were to jump behind enemy lines and capture 4 key bridges. -
Battle of Bulge
Hitler's last offensive took place in the middle of December of 1944. This was one of the key battles of the war. Germans nearly break the British / American lines. Americans go back on offensive. -
