    After Alexander the 1st died, some people didn't want to take an oath to Nicholas the 1st. They convinced some troops to not take the oath and wanted Nicholas's brother to become ruler. The uprising was easily crushed and they sent some of the revolters to Siberia.

    Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    After Russia lost a war, Alexander II put an end to serfdom. This made the serfs have more rights, be able to marry, be able to own land, and make more purchasing decisions.

    Nicholas II becomes czar after the death of his father. He did not want to be czar and enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family more.

    Russia didn't like Japan's plan to divide Manchuria and Korea into spheres of influence. Then Japan launched a suprise attack on one of Russia's ports and destroyed many of Russia's ships. Russia suffering many heavy defeats in this war was a cause of the Russian Revolution in 1905

    The 2 groups were the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks were communists and known as the red army. The Mensheviks were supported by countries like the U.S. and England.

    The defenders of the winter palace gave up with a little resistance. After the battle the Civil War started between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks

    The civil war was a war between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks or the red vs white. The war lasted 3 years and was won by the Bolsheviks

    Nicholas II and his family are led into the basement as they believe they are getting a family photo. They are then executed by the Bolsheviks.

    Lenin died of strokes so Stalin took power in the Soviet Union. He overpowered his rivals for the job and by the late 1920's he was the sole dictator of the Soviet Union. He made the Soviet Union in to a industrial and miltary superpower.
