    Charlie Freehan was introduced into the book the Runner, by leaving his family's house in his ragged coat to school. All he was wishing for was warmth, that was what the poor craved for, to be poor was to be cold.
  • A Job for Charlie

    A Job for Charlie
    As Charlie made his way towards Darlington Parade for an appointment with Squizzy Taylor, the most dangerous gangster in Richmond. As he entered Squizzy Taylor's apartment he was surprised to see 3 other boys the same age as him and also as nervous as him. As they were all given sashes of the colours Blue,Yellow,Green and Red as Charlie they were also given packages with an address.
  • The Race

    The Race
    As Dasher shouted 'Go'! All the contestants including Charlie ran around Dasher as fast as they could then could attempting to get a head start on the others. As they made their way to the Orient- where a criminal record would grant you access, the contestants were running right and left hoping they would not break any of the contents inside the package. As the sight of the Orient were in their vision they ran as fast as they could, which made Charlie and the yellow sashed boy crash.
  • The Winner

    The Winner
    As they both crashed inside the Orient, the yellow sashed boy- Jimmy Barlow was thought to be first, Charlie Freehan-Red as second, then the blue sashed boy, and the green sashed boy came last. As Dasher opened the packages, they announced that the blue and green's contents were not cracked, then Dasher went towards Jimmy Barlow and opened the package to find out it was in an unfit state, he then opened Charlie's package to announce that Charlie's eggs were in a good working order.
  • The Envelope

    The Envelope
    As a couple of days past after the race, he was given an envelope by Squizzy Taylor for Charlie's mother as Charlie gave the letter to his mother, she opened the envelope and started reading it out loud. Inside it, Squizzy Taylor asked for the permission for Charlie to become a runner for him for money.
  • New Shoes

    New Shoes
    Charlie goes to Squizzy Taylor's house and finds Dolly. Dolly gave Charlie a box with nice and shiny leather shoes. He fits them on and puts his fathers shoes in the box.
  • The Interruption

    While Mr Peacock arrived at their house after being invited yesterday by Charlie's mother, Norman arrived a few moments later with a football asking for the permission from Charlie's mother to take Charlie for a game of footy outside. As they both left the house they were interrupted by Jimmy Barlow and his gang of friends, who has taken their football from the grasps of Charlie and Norman's hands.
  • 1st Job

    Charlie first job was to pick up creams and lotions for Dolly, who supplied Charlie his brand new shoes for the job, and a few manly errands, mainly to test Charlie on how he did things.
  • A Job for Two

    A Job for Two
    As Squizzy Taylor and Dolly were attending the theater, Charlie and Norman were given a job to collect and deliver beer and wine from Jenkins, who was another criminal who supplies wine and beer to anyone with a crime certificate.
  • The Fight

    The Fight
    As Charlie came back home from an errand Squizzy Taylor assigned him to do, he found out that Mr Peacock, one of his father's closest friends was laying into Charlie's mother, as Charlie roared at him he ran into his room got his cricket bat and clobbered Mr Peacock right on the back of the head, with blood flowing out from his head
  • Boxing

    Boxing
    After Charlie clobbered Mr Peacock with the cricket bat, Charlie decided to train with Mr Redmond who is teaching him about the two Jeff'S which is finking and footwork, Charlie's training started with skipping then fighting. Mr Redmond wants Charlie to be the 'man' of the house.
  • Norman's Footy Game

    Norman's Footy Game
    Both Charlie and Norman's parents attended Norman's footy game against Jimmy Barlow's team, which was filled with strong and tough players Jimmy Barlow's team seemed to be impenetrable, but as soon Charlie told Norman about the 3 'effs, Jimmy Bsrlow's team couldn't catch up
  • Alice Cornwall

    Charlie started his job from Squizzy and went to a cake shop to collect some money from a guy. When Chalie went there, he had noticed that there was Alice 'the girl of his dreams' behind the counter. He had to collect money from her father. Charlie went to ask Mr Cornwall but he said he didn't have the money
  • The Gramaphone

    The Gramaphone
    Mr and Mrs Redmond got Charlie a Gramaphone for his Boxing practise. But then Charlie had told Mr and Mrs Redmond that he had retired Boxing. But then he told them that the Gramaphone was a waste of money so he thought he'd take it home and finally make his mother smile again as she did before
