The Manchurian Incident
A section of railway, owned by Japan's South Manchuria Railway, was dynamited by Japan officials and blaming it on China. Japan needed to invade China for more land but Japan had no valid reason for an attack. Thus, framing China so Japan would not look like the bad guys. -
Italian Invasion of Ethiopia (Abyssinia)
Italy attacked Ethiopia without a declaration of war. Mussolini's troops outnumbered the Ethiopian military, thus defeating Ethiopia in 7 months. Italy then announced the annexation of Ethiopia. -
Remilitarization of the Rhineland
This occured when the German military forces entered the Rhineland. This event violated the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. France and Britian did not attempt stop Hitler. Hitler said if the French were going to retaliate Germany would pull back with their tails between their legs. -
Nationalist Victory in the Spanish Civil War
The Nationalists defeated the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. They won because of the foreign support from countries such as Germany, Portugal and Italy. They had plenty of success in repeatedly gaining territory during the war. Lastly, they had a great leader, General Fransico Franco. -
Anschluss
Hitler (Germany) declares "Anschluss" (union) with Austria. Hitler marched his army into Austria and announced the union without the approval of the Austrian government. -
German annexation of Sudetenland
Part of Czechoslavakia, Germany wanted to annexation Sudentenland. Hitler recieved three out of five votes, making it the second largest political party. -
Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact
Both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a pact stating that neither country would attack each other. Germany would not have to fight a battle on two-fronts and the Soviet Union was awarded some land. This agreement lasted until June 22, 1941 when Germany surprise attacked and invaded the Soviet Union. -
German Invasion of Poland
Within a few weeks Germany had defeated Poland's military. The Soviet Union was also invading the East part of Poland. Germany and the Soviet Union split Poland until January 1945 when Poland was no longer under Germany's control. -
American embargo on oil to Japan
The US initiated oil embargos on Japan. This is one of the reasons that led Japan to attack Pearl Harbor.
