  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles was created as a peace treaty to end WWI. Although Russia and Germany fought side by side, the soviet union retreated from the war and left Germany to fight on their own. The Treaty stated that Germany had to take responsibility for the war and pay for all reparations that were caused. The Treaty also prohibited them from creating a military in the years to come to prevent another war. This took a major toll on them and left them in an economic depression.
  • Hitler takes control of Germany

    Hitler takes control of Germany
    In the year of 1933, Hitler and the Nazi Party gain recognition and power. They decided to overthrow the government and take control of Germany. The only way they could get full control was to get the German citizens on their side. At this time, Germany was in a great economic depression and were desperate to look for anything that will bring them a better life and better future. The Nazi party took advantage of the country at this vulnerable state and promised to escape the hold of the Treaty.
  • Invasion of the Rhineland

    Invasion of the Rhineland
    In 1936, Hitler decided to send military troops into the Rhineland. The Rhineland was a German territory that lied on the border of France. Once France saw this movement, they felt as if Hitler was trying to threaten them. France immediately alerted Britain of Germany's disrespect of the Treaty of Versailles. Britain did not want to confront Hitler as they were afraid he might lash out. Instead they came up with an appeasement to give in to Hitler to try and prevent another war.
  • Anschluss

    Anschluss
    The Anschluss was when Hitler and the german military took control of Hitler's home country, Austria. Hitler always wanted to Unite Austria with Germany because they are very similar culturally wise. The Nazi party was so powerful that they easily forced the Austrian government to surrender. This was only the start Germany's expanding empire.
  • Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    Invasion of Czechoslovakia
    Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and forced them to surrender. However, the Czech government were just awaiting Hitler's arrival and were ready to fight back when he attacked their country. The league of nations tried to stop this invasion to ensure peach between the countries, however they failed.
  • Munich Pact

    Munich Pact
    The Munich Pact was an appeasement that the league of nations created to prevent another war from happening. They didn't want Hitler to take over any more countries. The agreement said that Hitler could continue to control the countries he already invaded, but he couldn't invade any new countries.
  • Nazi-Soviet Pact

    Nazi-Soviet Pact
    Germany and the Soviet Union were two of the most powerful nations that almost everyone feared. Hitler and Stalin agreed that they would not invade each other's territory. They also decided to invade Poland and divide it between the two nations. Hitler did this despite the fact that he signed the Munich Pact saying he wouldn't invade another country.

    Invasion of Poland / start of WWII
    Hitler and Stalin finally invaded Poland together. Once the league of nations found out that Hitler broke the Munich Pact, they were extremely angry. Hitler was just doing whatever he wanted and did not care of the consequences. Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Hitler. World War II had begun.
