When 5,000 Kansas residents crossed a state line to vote pro slavery in Missouri illegally. The anti-slavery government was attacked by the proslavery. To avenge said attack John Brown murdered his pro slavery neighbors. -
Attack on Harpers Ferry
John Brown was a radical abolitionist. He attempted to spark a slave uprising by taking the armory at harpers ferry. His goal was to aim the slaves. After he was captured, he and his remaining men were sentenced to death. -
Fugitive slave law of 1850
The act was passed in 1850 by congress. It allowed the capturing and sending south of any African American, even free men. -
The election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln won the election and the southern states soon secededed.
