    The French and Indian War was fought between the French, the British, and their respective allies. It signified the end of years of conflict between the two nations for control in North America. The British were victorious in the war. However, they had incurred tremendous debt to their allies, pushing the British crown try to alleviate the debt by instating policies/taxes that caused unrest in the colonies.   • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was intended to fund British troops stationed in North America. The act placed a stamp on all paper publications, representing the tax colonists would have to pay on all those items. The colonists believed they had not been fairly represented in Parliament when the act was passed. The conflict started a series of boycotts and protests against British goods and policies.     The Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were laws placed on the colonies, taxing imports like paper, glass, and tea. The acts were supposed to pay for colony expenses, and ensure loyalty to Britain from colonial governments. Furious at the rising taxes on British goods, colonists refused to purchase those items, opting instead to make it themselves.   • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was a tax instated by Britain, taxing all imported tea to America. The act created a monopoly in The British East India Company's favor, where it became the only option for purchasing of tea. Colonists continued to boycott tea, through increasingly drastic protests. One such event includes the Boston Tea Party, after which Britain announced the Coercive Acts to punish the protestors.   • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress involved representatives from the American colonies gathering to discuss their future. It helped to decide a course of action to prevent the continued unfairness of British rule. The Congress demanded the same rights as citizens of Britain, otherwise threatening to continue their protests and boycotts.
