Khilafat movement
Maulana Muhammad ali and maulana Shaukat ali tried to help Turkey but when Gandhi joined, the whole movement collapsed and the turkish leader overthrew the caliph himself and made turkey into a republic. -
Period: 1914 BCE to 1918 BCE
World War 1
during this war, the Indians threw its whole weight of men and resources behind the effort to defeat Germany and Austria. The British prime minister needed more troops and so he promised the Indians self government at an unnamed future. The defeat of the others seemed symbolic to the Indians. -
1911 BCE
The reunification of Bengal and reforms in education
Bengal was reunited. It was a gift to the Muslims. there were wide ranging education reforms. Few Muslims were appointed to the government jobs. There were a lot of Hindus getting education, whereas there were very few Muslims. -

Morley Minto Reforms
This was the 2nd important step on the road to independence. Indians got a small share in the government. There were different clauses in this document. Some of them which angered the Hindus and some which were the source of major conflict. -

The All-India Muslim league
Muslims met at Dhaka, in 1906, to form the Muslim league to protect the rights of Muslims, and to fight for separate electorates. -

The total defeat of the powerful European state of Russia by a small Asian country sent shock waves through out the east. It gave great hope to the nationalists everywhere. -

The partition of Bengal
The actual partition was done by Lord Curzon, because he felt that it would be better to administer the different regions that way. The Muslims had no problem, but the Indians did because it was their source of income. -
