    The Rise of Totalitarianism

  • Benito Mussolini

Mussolini gained wide support trough his speeches against Communists and Socialists. He encouraged the use of violence against the two.
  • Joseph Stalin

After the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, Stalin sought to gain total control. He used a "reign of terror" to bring the Soviet Union to its former glory. He imprisoned children, believing they were the greatest threat. He also tortured POWs. He signed an agreement with Germany and Italy, which later proved itself null.
  • Adolf Hitler

Coming into full power in 1933, Adolf Hitler started rebuilding the German armies. Hitler convinced Britain and France to let him continue, telling them that this was to stop the spread of communism.
  • Hideki Tojo

Tojo became Prime Minister in 1940. Japan favored the idea of having a dictator, and Tojo used that to his advantage. After the loss of Saipan, Tojo attempted suicide, but survived, and was tried. He was hanged December 23, 1948.
