Lexington and Concord
The British and the colonists clashed at the first battle of the Revolurionary War. "The shot heard around the war," was the first shot in this battle. The colonists had much success shooting at the British from hiding places. -
Battle of Brooklyn (Long Island)
First real battle between the Americn and British armies. Redcoats, under general Howe, went into New York and attempted to trap the colonists in Brooklyn. Washington reacted by holding his ground and then by the secret of night, rowing away. -
Battle of Germantown
was the 2nd battle in or around Pennslevania. America gained victory here by attcking from all directions and forcing the British to flee. -
Battle at Saratoga
Saratoga was a turning point in the war. General Burgoyne planned to make a three-pronged attck that met at Saratoga and helped Britain controll New York. Burgoyne ended up almost surrendering his entire army to the colonists. -

A joint army of colonists and French tried to defeat and capture the British occupied Savannah, GA, but failed resulting in many casualties. -
Battle of Camdem, SC
The British, under Cornwallis, destroyed the colonists army, under Gates. Gates ran away and bever commanded another army. This battle fortifies Britain's control of South Carolina. -
Battle at Yorktown
This American victory ended the war. After Cornwallis was defeated in the South, his army continually weakened. The Americans and FRench cornered the British army until they finally surrendered.
