    The French and Indian war
    The French and the British were fighting over control of the Ohio River Valley. The war lasted 9 years and cost the British a lot of money. The British won but were in significant debt. In order to pay off debt they started taxing the colonists, sparking the first dispute between the colonies and the crown.

    Townshend Acts
    To help pay the expenses involved the American colonies passed the Townshend Acts which initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and also team. In response to the new taxes the colonies again decided to discourage the purchase of the British imports. Like the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts produced controversy and protest in the American colonies. For a second time

    In this first battle of the American Revolution, Massachusetts colonists defied British authority, outnumbered and outfought the Redcoats, and embarked on a lengthy war to earn their independence. The Battles of Lexington and Concord took a toll on both sides. For the colonists, 49 were killed, 39 were wounded, and five were missing. For the British, 73 were killed, 174 were injured, and 26 were missing
