Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. The money collected by the Stamp Act was to be used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier near the Appalachian Mountains . -
Townshend Acts
These laws, which were passed by parliament in 1767,taxed imports on the colonies such as glass,paper,paint,lead, and tea.They also gave permission for British officers to give writs if assistance,or search warrants, to get in homes and businesses to search for smuggles and illegal goods.These laws were passed to help Britain have a tight control over shipping and to help them get more money. -

THe Boston Massacre, which was when British soldiers shot and killed 5 colonists in a riot.This angered colonists a lot. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the REvolutionary War.The British had destroyed supplies at Lexington, but retreated after being bombarded with bullets at the road from Lexington to Concord by militiamen and minutemen. -
Second Continental Congress Meeting
The colonial delegates met on May 10,1775 on the same day as the attack on Fort Ticonderoga,This would be America's government during the Revolutionary War. -
Declaration of Independance
This document declared the colonists free from Britain although they didnt battle with them (yet).It was declared official and was signed by the Continental Congress on July 4,1776. -
End of the Battle of Saratoga
This battle,which was won by the Americans, when the British general Burgoyne surrendered after day and night of firiong and being surrounded. -
Battle of Charleston(End)
This battle ended as a disaster for the patriots.The British had won, destroying most of the American southern army.It happened in South Carolina. -
End of the Batlle of Yorktown
This battle, which ended the Revoluutionary War, was located in Yorktown,Virginia and was won by the Americans.After being surrounded by the French at sea and the patriots by land, British general Cornwallis surrendered. -
Treaty of Paris
This document, signed by the British king and colonial represenatives, ended the Revolutionary War and declared that the United States was a free country.
