First Continental Congress meet with England
In September 1774, the CONTINENTAL CONGRESS meet to make peace with Great Britain. They decided to boycott British goods, and send a letter to the king. -

A british soldier started the REVOLUTIONARY WAR with the "SHOT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD". Paul Revere and William Dawes traveled to spread the word. -
Continental Army battles
Also in May 1775, the CONTINENTAL ARMY capture FORT TICONDEROGA. This was a British base with lots of armoury and weapons. -
Representative's meet in Philadelphia
In May 1775 12 representative's meet in Philadelphia to make plans for a CONTINENTAL ARMY. Together they chose George Washington to be the commandor, and King George was furious. -

The BRITISH had more money, more power, and a highly trained army. The PATRIOTS had more people, more on the line, and their freedom at stake. No one knew who would win this battle. For BRITISH thier army was their job, for LOYALISTS thier army was their life. -
Lord Dunmore's Proclamation
The BRITISH created a law that offered freedom to enslaved Africans, if they fought in their army. This caused many slaves to leave their owners. -
British Settlements Attacks
PATRIOTS tried attacking BRITISH SETTLEMENTS in Canada. The PATRIOTS were angry. Their last fight was in Quebec, after they were defeated. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine created a pamphlet called "COMMON SENSE" people to disband from Great Britain. This convinced many people to become patriots. -
Declaration of Independance is drafted
Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman came together and drafted the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE. This gave Colonists the right to disband from England, say that King George had violated colonists' rights, and you had the right to freedom. -
Continental Army in New York
When the CONTINENTAL ARMY was trying to attack BRITISH SETTLEMENTS, the BRITISH made them leave New York. -
America is a new country
On July 4, 1776 the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE is aproved by the Continental Congress and America is created. -

GEORGE WASHINGTON took 2,400 soldiers and attacked the BRITISH in THE BATTLE OF TRENTON. -
Battle of Saratoga
After the BRITISH were defeated at the BATTLE OF SARATOGA, FRANCE AND SPAIN agreed to help the AMERICANS. -
Valley Forge
During a harsh winter, WASHINGTON led his army to stay at VALLY FORGE, PENSYLVANIA. It was so cold, and more than a fifth of WASHINGTON'S soldiers died. -
Battle of Vincennes
Explorer GEORGE ROGERS CLARK built a frontier army and attacked the BRITISH. He captured BRITISH settlements and convinced NATIVE AMERICANS to not fight in the war. -
Bonhomme defeats Serapis
The BRITISH had many army ships so the AMERICANS attacked each ship individually. They only had 100 ships, and sank over 200 BRITISH SHIPS. -
Southern Army
The SOUTHERN ARMY was defeated but PATRIOTS continued to fight. Then the army was lessened when BENEDICT ARNOLD turned traitor. -
Peace Negotiations
BRITIAN and AMERICA start talking about peace between them. -
Battle of Yorktown
WASHINGTON teamed up with FRENCH and they attacked YORKTOWN. It took 3 weeks, but the BRITISH ARMY finally surrendered. -
Treaty of Paris
The TREATY OF PARIS had ended the REVOLUTIONARY WAR, and made ENGLAND rcognize that AMERICA was it's own land.
