The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party happened on Decemeber 16, 1773. That night a group of colonist dressed up as Indians and boarded British ships. They then proceeded to dump about 375 boxes of British tea into Boston Harbor. Colonist did this due to the recent tax put on their tea in May. The British were not happy with this act. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a set of laws passed by British officials. These laws were created after the Boston Tea Party. Their purpose was to bring the rambunctous ways of the colonists to a halt. The British closed Boston Harbor, canceled the Massachusetts charter, moved trails of colonial officals to Britain, allowed quarting of British troops in all colonies, and gave Canada control of the Ohio region. -
Lexington and Concord
The Battle of Lexington and Concord had a specific impact on the war. It was the first offical battle of the Revolutionary War. The events that happened before it were just acts. This was the first battle. -
The Second Continental Congress
Members of the Continental Congress met in the State house in Philidelphia in May 10, 1775. Many new members joined during this meeting. They established the Continental Army and appointed General George Washington as chief of this army. -
Fort Ticonderoga
In 1775 French settlers in North America began to create a military fortification. Fort Ticonderoga is located directly acorss from Lake Champlain. As the first rebel victory of the Revolutionary War, The Battle at Fort Ticonderoga was a morale boaster for the Continental Army. The Battle at Fort Ticonderoga was a key point of acess to Canada and The Hudson River during the French and Indian war. On May 10, 1775 there was a dawn attack surprising and caputuring the Bristish officals. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker Hill happened in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The battle took place when the colonists learned that the British planned to take control of Charlestown. General Prescott took his troops to Bunker Hill to fight. The colonists launched a surprise attack on the British and battle broke out at dawn on June 16, 1775. The colonists won. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress met in Philidelphia in September 1774. The Congress contained 56 members. These men met to try to solve the crisis happening in Boston at that time. After many days of debating, they came to a conclusion. They told the colonist to continue to boycott British goods yet, they warned them to always be ready to fight. -

The Declaration of Independence is an official document created by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This document was written to declare war between the 13 colonies and Britain. It also stated that the colonies were now independent and free from British control. The signing of this document has a specific impact on the war because it officialy declared freedom from Britain, and that is a huge impact! -
The Capture of New York
The Capture of New York had a very important impact on the war. The British took control of New York, and held it in their command until 1783. It was the base of British opperations in the colonies , which made it very easy for them to have control over the colonies for many years. This had a huge impact on both sides. -
The Battle of Trenton
The Battle of Trenton happened on the Deleware river in Trenton, New Jersey on Christmas night. George Washington launched a surprise attack on the Hessians. The Hessians were having a great time, and were very drunk when they attacked, so the colonists won by a long shot. The famous picture of Washington crossing the Delaware illustrates this battle. -
The Battle of Princeton
The Battle of Princeton happened in early January 1777. George Washington decided he wanted another victory over the British, (after the Battle of Trenton) before the winter got really cold. The colonists launched a surprise attack on the British at night near Princeton, New Jersey. The colonists won. -

The Battle of Saratoga
There were two battles in the Battle of Saratoga. The first took place on the September 19, 1777, and the second took place on October 7, 1777. These battles were a turning point for the colonists. Before these battles, the colonists' situation looked grim, but during these battles, France and Spain joined forces with the colonists, resulting in their win of the second battle, and a huge step up to winning the war! -
The Winter at Valley Forge
The Winter at Valley Forge was a hard one. It started on December 19, 1777, and the soldiers were sent back home on May 6, 1778. When the soldiers moved to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania they didn't know what was ahead of them. Through the winter, soldiers suffered through freezing cold temperatures, lack of food, lack of clothing, and lack of supplies. 2,000 soldiers died throughout those horrible few months. This emcampment went down in history. -

The Battle of Yorktown.
The Battle at Yorktown started on 9/28/1781, and ended on 10/19/1781. This battle had a huge impact on the Revolutionary War. This was the last major battle, and some say, the end of the war. General Cornwalis of Britain surrenderd during the last battle, in Yorktown, Virgina. This stated that the colonists won the war, and the British lost. This was a HUGE impact. -
The Treaty of Paris
After the British surrendered at Yorktown, a British Prime Minister decided there should be a legal document ending the Revoultionary War. The Treaty of Paris was a document that recgonized that the 13 colonies were independent from Britain. It also fufilled the Ministers requirements of being legal. Britain removed all of their troops from the colonies, and the colonist paid all existing debts owed to Britain. The Treaty was signed on September 3, 1782.
