Trouble in the Colony.
The Ralph Lane Colony only lasted eight months. There was trouble finding food and people were dying. -
The Beginning.
In 1585, Queen Isabella called Ralph Lane from Ireland and told him that Sir Walter Raleigh was planning to sail to Virginia (Roanoke Island). Sir Walter Raleigh invited Ralph Lane to command the expedition. -
Leaving England.
In April 1585, six ships with approximately 600 men on board left England in search of new land. -
Finding Land.
After losing one ship to a storm, they crew arrived to the Outer Banks by June. -
Leaving the Colony.
In June 1586, a ship led by Sir Francis Drake left Roanoke carrying the remaining English colonists back home.
