The Coal Strike of 1902
Strike by the United Mine Workers of America in the anthracite coalfields of eastern Pennsylvania. Miners went on strike and demanded less work but more pay. Roosevelt suspended this strike and workers ended up getting a 10% wage increase. They also worked 9 hours a day instead of 10 hours. This would go under the category of fostering efficiency. The reasoning for this is due to the fact that they are working less, but making more. -
Meat inspection Act
American law that makes it illegal and a crime to misbrand meat and meat products being sold as food. Makes sure meat is being slaughtered and processed under clean and sanitary conditions. This would go under the category as Moral Improvement. The reasoning behind this is because by improving the conditions in which meat is being slaughtered and processed, this improves morality of workers and it helps improve peoples lives both mentally and physically.
