    The radio first started broadcasting on november 2, 1920 although a lot of these broadcasts were only worried newspapers that feared they would be replaced by the radio. The first station was called 8XK but was eventually renamed to KDKA.

    The radio allowed for the enjoyment of listening to music, cartoons and even the news cast to know if it was going to be a good day or not but soon some radio stations started competing and others caused even more racial stereotypes than there already was. An example of this is the radio station called "Amos 'n Andy," which was a show in Chicago and was one radio station that caused a lot more racial stereotyping.

    The golden era was in the middle of the great depression and people were wanting money so thats when the radio stations played popular music, story hour, situational comedies, and drama an example of some of these shows are GunSmoke, The shadow, superman, dick Tracey, and the 64 dollar question (which was the original who wants to be a millionaire).

    When television became popular in the late 1930 radio stations began to lose money and since they were losing money the advertisers moved over to the television the radio stations thought it was over and they thought the radio was going to be gone forever but why is it still here then?.

    One thing that the radio had that the television did not was MUSIC, music is what saved the radio because at the time of the 1930s you didn't have a lot of options of what you could listen to music on you had jukeboxes, records, or live concerts but no one had a jukebox in there home, record disc's were too easily broken and no one had the time or money to go to every single live concert so the radio filled in a missing gap.

    Edwin Armstrong invented the FM transmitter which gave the radio a stronger signal and clearer sound but sadly the only way to get the FM signal and sound listeners had to buy all now radio sets.

    The FM not only increase the signal strength and sharpen the sound but it also allowed two more things it allowed there to be two different signals AM and FM, AM was primarily used for talking like the weather or just talk shows and FM was primarily used for music.

    In this time you don't see radios everywhere but in cars and maybe some houses why? well its due to us having advanced technology that what we had back then we have smart phones, laptops, even gaming systems but they all can download music you can buy and download music on your phone or download an app to get radio on your phone you also have things like youtube, spotify, pandora, and itunes not a lot of people listen to the radio anymore but the radio is still going and it will keep going.
