    The interal combustion engine was first made in 1859 by Étienne Lenoir. It was then modernized in 1864 by Siegfried Marcus.The engine was the turning point in the car indusrty because it helped develop cars today. An interal combustion engine gets its energy from heat released during the combustion of fuel.

    First motor was invented in 1886 by Karl Benz. It is called the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. This is one of the things that first launched the idea and the more developed toe of cars and motors.

    Charles and Frank Duryea founded the first car manufacturers in the US, the Duryea Motor Wagon Company. The Duryea Motor Wagon Company was based in Springfeild, Massachusetts. They built the first sucessful gas-powered car, as well as the first steam powered car. At the same time the Daimler Motor Syndicate formed in Brittian. They had hard times when their buisness first started, but after they got through their hard times the buisness took off and is still flourishes today.

    Ransom E Olds made use of the production line in mass car production. Some people call him a pioneer of the the american automotive industry. He used the assembly line to make the first massed produced car, the curved dash oldsmobile. Mass producing cars made the price lower, causing the lower classes to be able to purchace cars and get from place to place easier.

    In 1902 the American Automobile Association was created because there was a need of roads and highways that cars could safely use. Today AAA supplys cars from everything from rodaside assistance to traffic safety. It has played a major part in the history of the automobile.

    Ford Motor Company is established and within the first year sells over 1,700 cars in their first year. Selling this many cars in a short period of time, at this stage in the production of cars, was a huge deal in the car industry. This showed all the other car manufactures how ahead Ford was in the motor business.

    In June of 1910, the first brake system was created. This helped lead to what cars are today. Without break systems there would be many more injuries and car crashes. In 1910, this was a big breakthrough in the automobie industry. Frederick Lanchester changed the car game when he made he break.

    Henry Ford, in 1913, popularized the production line by making it move. His new innovation, made the production of cars go from a 12 hour process, to a 2 hour and 30 min process. In 1908, Ford built his model T car that he wanted everyone to have. He needed to find a way to make the car less expensive, so he created the moving assembly line.

    In 1958 the seat belt was made manditory in cars. At first it was optional to have belts made into cars but the sweedish saab made it standard in all their cars. Cars today still hve seat belts and it is now a law to always wear them. They make cars more safe and have saved many peoples lives through the years.

    The first air bag was fitted to GM cars Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Cadillacs. This improved the saety of cars and urged more people to purchase them. Putting them in cars showed the customers how much they valued their safety. Today, cars are still being improved in safety and quality.

    Hyundai and Toyota introduce the first mass-market hydrogen cars. This is a great invention because it reduces the amout of green house gasses that cause global warming. It also helps us depend less on oil. It is such a new product tat very few our out on the market today.
