About 85% of the Australian population (21 million) is of European descent, mainly settlers from the colonial era and post-federation immigrants. For generations, immigration came almost exclusively from the Equipped Kingdom and especially from England, which means that the inhabitants of Australia are still mainly of English ethnic origin.
