A Talk with Sodapop
Day 1 - Evening
Ponyboy had a talk with Sodapop at night and talked about schools, Darry, etc. This is the first time in the book that Ponyboy expressed his concerns about Darry doesn't love him, which constructed a base for the after confliction between Darry and Ponyboy. -
Ponyboy Got Jumped by Socs
Day 1 - Afternoon
Ponyboy left from a theatre in the late afternoon. On his way back home, Ponyboy was called "greaser" by some Socs. The Socs chased after Ponyboy and caught him down on the ground. They threatened to cut off Ponyboy's hair and used a knife against his throat. Fortunately, he was saved by his gang. This showed the intense grudge between greasers and Socs, and made the point that long hair was a symbol of greasers. -
The Gang Went Out
Day 2 - Afternoon
On their way to the drive-in theatre, Dally went into a shop and stole some things. This showed that Dally is a sophiscated thief, and greasers were used to this way of doing things. They also saw a fight bewteen a greaser and a Mexican hitchhiker. It was an afternoon. -
First Met with Cherry
Day 2 - Evening
Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally went to a drive-in in the greasers' way in the evening. They met two Socs girl without their boyfriends. Dally harassed those girls but was stopped by Johnny. This showed Johnny's importance in Dally's heart, and explained why Dally was so grievous when Johnny died. Also, Cherry got to know with Ponyboy. -
A Walk of Four
Day 2 - Late Evening
Two-bit came by after Dally went off, and they decided to walk the Socs girls home. Ponyboy had a nice talk on the way with Cherry until a few Mustangs showed up. That's the point that Socs boys think greasers were picking up their girls. This is also the first time when Ponyboy started to realize that Socs and greasers were alike. -
Escaping
Day 3 - Morning
After the encounter with Socs, Ponyboy and Johnny decided to run away. They found Dally for some help. They got a gun, 50 bucks and a plan from Dally. Ponyboy and Johnny took the three-fifteen freight to Windrixville. They were to hide in an abandoned church on the Jay Mountain. We can infer that Dally used to have the same experience and really cared about his gang. The gun without bullets was another reason for the death of Dally. -
Darry Hit Ponyboy
Day 3 - Early Morning
Ponyboy watched stars with Johnny and fell asleep there. When he woke up it was 2 am and he went back home. Darry was mad at Ponyboy since he got home so late. He hit Ponyboy and this made Ponyboy reached his breaking point, which pushed the unsatisfaction of love from Darry into next level. He decided to run away with Johnny to somewhere else. -
Got To The Church
Day 3 - Afternoon
After they got to Windrixville, Ponyboy and Johnny pretended to be farm boys and asked a farmer for the direction of the church. They got into the abandoned church by the window and Ponyboy remember an embarrasing experience with the gang in the church. The two fell asleep tiredly. -
A Haircut?
Day 3 - Late Afternoon
Ponyboy woke and looked for Johnny, who went away to buy supplies. Ponyboy made a hard decision to cut off his hair, which is a symbol of the greasers. They also cut off Johnny's hair. In the end, they cried out loud for their lives. This showed that they had to give up their old lives, though reluctantly. -

Four Days of Boredom
Day 4 - Day 8
Ponyboy and Johnny spent time reading Gone With the Wind and playing poker. There was where Ponyboy had a new perspective of seeing people, including Dally, Johnny and other greasers. Ponyboy also recited the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay at the sunset, which turned out to be an important symbol of good life in the novel. -
To the Hospital
Day 8 - Evening
The three was sent to the hospital by a teacher. Ponyboy was fine and reunioned with his brothers. Dally burnt his one arm, and Johnny was in critical condition and is still fainted. Some reporters and police came, Ponyboy told them his story. -
Heroic Action
Day 8 - Afternoon
Dally drove Ponyboy and Johnny back to the church after having lunch. On their way back to the church, Johnny said that he would like to turn himself in in order to not run away anymore. Dally was irritated by his words because he didn't want Johnny to be someone like him, which made him regret in later chapters. When they got to the church, it was on fire. Ponyboy and Johnny went to save the children inside and fainted out after they got out. -
Returning To The Outside World
Day 8 – Morning
After 5 days of baloney, Dally went to see Ponyboy and Johnny and gave Ponyboy the letter from Sodapop. Ponyboy felt love and care from his family. They went out to the DQ and got some food. Dally told Ponyboy that Cherry was a spy for the greasers. -
Death of Two (1)
Day 9 - Late Evening
After the rumble, Ponyboy and Dally got a police escort to the hospital to see Johnny. On their way to the hospital, Dally told Ponyboy that he was regretful to not let Johnny be someone like himself. If Johnny was smart and strong enough, he wouldn't have to be in a critical condition. Johnny said his last words about "Stay Gold" to Ponyboy and passed away. He wanted Ponyboy to live a life rather than existing. Ponyboy hitchhiked home. -
Juvenile Delinquents Turn Heros
Day 9 - Morning
Ponyboy woke up at his house, he saw the title of the newspaper. There was to be a juvenile court to decided whether Ponyboy was in a good environment for his development. He worried if he would be sentenced to be separate from his family. -
A Talk with Randy
Day 9 - Afternoon
Ponyboy had a talk with Randy when he stopped to buy cokes with Two-Bit. Randy said that he didn't want to fight, because it would't solve any problems. This was crucial to the theme since he expressed the uselessness of fights and greasers and Socs were the same. This P.O.V was deepened when Ponyboy met Cherry, who said that the sunsets were the same on the east and west sides. No matter living on which side, there were always people who were enthusiastic for life. -
A Visit To Johnny
Day 9 - Late Afternoon
Ponyboy and Two-Bit visited Johnny in the hospital; he was still in critical conditions. He asked for a copy of Gone With The Wind. His mother came to see him and he didn't want to see her, which made him so angry and faint out. -
The Rumble
Day 9 - Evening
Finally the rumble between Socs and greasers began. Ponyboy got kicked in the head, which made to be a reason why he fainted out for days in the coming chapters. The greasers won. -
Death of Two (2)
Day 9 - Late Evening
Dally was so sad about Johnny's death. Dally robbed a grocery store and asked the gang for help. He used a gun without bullet in it as a bluff. He was chased by police and got shot to death in front of Ponyboy. Ponyboy fainted out after he saw it. -

Wake Up
Day 10 - Day 11 Morning
Ponyboy woke up and Darry was sitting next to him. He started to worry about whether he asked for Darry when he was unconscious, which could hurt Darry's feelings. Randy came to visit Ponyboy and told him he would be honest when in the juvenile court. -
Wake Up
Day 12 - Morning
Ponyboy waked up from unconciousness, he found Darry sleeping in the armchair. Darry told him Johnny left the book "Gone with wind". Talking to Darry, Ponyboy knew that he kept calling his families name, his father, mother, Sodapop and also Darry in the hospital. This helped Ponyboy realize that how improtant Darry means to him, how important his family means to him. -

A Week in Bed
Day 12 - Day 19
Because of the concussion, Ponyboy have to stay in bed for a whole week. -
Randy Comes to Visit
When Ponyboy was lying on bed, Randy comes to visit. Randy told Ponyboy that they have to go to the court tomorrow. Randy told about his father, and he said he feel sorry about his father. He said he will say the truth. Ponyboy worried about he would be send away from his brothers. Ponyboy was very suprise that Randy worried about him. Randy reminds him that Jonny is the one who kiiled Bob, but Ponyboy kept saying he is the one who killed Bob. Ponyboy just wanted to protect Johnny's reputation. -
The Court
Day 20 - Morning
The court was quite small, only a few people were at the court. The doctor talked to judge for while and that was the reason why Ponyboy could stay with Darry and Sodapop. Ponyboy wanted to correct it when people thought Johnny a muderer. He just wanted to protect Johnny's reputation. He couldn't protect Johnny's life, but he could protect his reputation, let Johnny died gallantly. At least, Ponyboy was claimed innocence. This grief was a reason Ponyboy started to write the book -

Day 21 - Day 28
During the week after the court. Ponyboy was in a very bad condition.People who knew me never talked to me agian, the one who didn't know me came to ask me the event. The grade of Ponyboy became lower and lower -
Meet Socs
Day 22 - Noon
At lunch hour,Ponyboy went to the parking lot and met Two-bits and Steve there. When they went to the grocery store, they met three Socs there. The Socs threaten Ponyboy and said they can't stand a greaser killed their friend, but Ponyboy threaten them bcak with a coke bottle in his hand. However, Two-bits said didn't want Ponyboy to be like this. Ponyboy still has the tommrow -
Treasure of Three
Day 22 - Evening
Darry was angry with Ponyboy because Ponyboy didi a every bad job in his school work, but Ponyboy thought drop of the school is not a bad chose. So they let Sodapop to decided who is right. Soda felt every upset and run out of the house. Darry and Ponyboy chase after him. Finally they realize how upset Soda was when they were arguing. They promise each other they would never fight again. They are their only families, they are treasure, the most important things to each other. -
A Talk with English Teacher
Day 22 - Morning
Ponyboy's English teacher came to find Ponyboy and told him abou his mark. Ponyboy would problebly fail the course, and his English teacher decided to give him a chance to write a paper. Pony boy can write s thing that is every important to him. Finally Ponyboy decided to write about all the things happened in these weeks. He wish that let everyone knowns there is still a lot of good things. Don't let one thing blind your eyes, there is always another side that no one knows. -
Letter From Johnny
Day 22 - Night
When Ponyboy went home, he opened the book "Gone With the Wind", he found there was a letter in the book. Johnny told Ponyboy that there would always be something good, and he wanted Dally to watch sunset for one time. But that was too late. In Johnny's mind, the gold maybe can't stay for long, but everything has a good side, the world is still beautiful. Never let one thing to blind one's mind. Keep to be kind and optimistic.
