The Outsiders

  • Backgroud

    Backgroud
Soc’s beat Ponyboy for no reason, and they almost killed him by knife. There is no equality of human rights in this community. They think rich people are all good, and the people who have no money should be bullied. The reason why I think this plot is important is because that this fact told readers why the things will happened next in this book, especially unfair things.
  • First met in the cinema

    First met in the cinema
Ponyboy and Johnny went to the Nightly Double with Dally at night, and they ran into Cherry and Marcia.Although Dally have crashed with Cherry, they still became friends. This is a very important plot of the novel because their meeting is the beginning of everything. If it did not happen, the story may never continue.
  • 1.A quarrel between brothers

    1.A quarrel between brothers
Ponyboy had a fight with his big brother Darry because he went home too late. Pony had bad relationship with Darry, so they will more easy to quarrel. At the same time, just because of this quarrel became the reason of Bob’s death, and deepened the gap between them.
  • 2.The death of Bob

    2.The death of Bob
The friendship between Ponyboy and Cherry made Bob was very angry because Cherry is his girlfriend, and Ponyboy is greasers. When Ponyboy and Johnny walked to the park, Bob and other Socs laid siege to them. They caught Ponyboy's arm and shoved his face into the fountain. Therefore, Johnny killed Bob. This is a little climax the turning point of this novel. In addition, Bob' s promoted the development of the plot.
  • 3.Escape to The Jay Mountain

    3.Escape to The Jay Mountain
After Johnny killed Bob, they turn to Dally for help. Dally told them to go to Windrixville, and there is an old abandoned church on top of Jay Mountain. This experience made Ponyboy understand a number of senses. He has become a brave boy from a weak child. This part of contents does foreshadowing for following chapter about fire in the church.
  • 4.Cut hair

    4.Cut hair
When they woke up, Ponyboy and Johnny cut their hair to each other, and Ponyboy bleach it. As the symbol of Greasers, hair is as important as their lives, but in order not to get into trouble they must do it. Although they cut the hair for alive, the hair’s value in their heart is not change. I think they are the people who have courage to bear.
  • Save kids

    Save kids
When Ponyboy, Dally and Johnny back to the Jay Mountain, the church was on fire. They had risked their lives saving kids who were stuck in the church. They turned heroes from juvenile delinquents. In my opinion, this event explained Greasers also could help people if he is a warmhearted guy. People should not have prejudice against them because of they are Greasers.
  • To understand Darry

    To understand Darry
Because they were injured, Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally were sent to the hospital for treatment. Ponyboy' s brothers came to see him. I think this plot is important because Ponyboy finally understood the love of Darry. Darry did care about Ponyboy, but he doesn't know how to express his feelings. After that, everything was going to be okay.
  • "Hero" news

    "Hero" news
After the big fire, Ponyboy went back home from hospital, and hear the news of Jonny and himself. That’s not the things that Pony want, because he know Johnny and him killed people this report will only make the police find them more quickly. Johnny was weaker than before, and he didn’t want him in trouble. I appreciate this mood very much.
  • Have a conversation with Randy

    Have a conversation with Randy
After he knew the hero news, he met Randy and they talked about this news. Randy asked him why save the kids, but no reason “Do you want to see them die?” Not all Greasers are bad, and they are kind and brave. This conversation let Pony change his mind to Soc's. Just like let Pony grow up and know more.
  • Johnny's words

    Johnny's words
Ponyboy and Two-Bit went to see Johnny and Dally. When they talk with Johnny, Johnny said he does not want to die, sixteen years is not enough. For Johnny, he is too young to die. However, he will die because of the rescue, and he wants to know more things about the world. For reader, they will think about which one is important to live or alive.
  • The rumble

    The rumble
Just because bob's died, Greasers decided to have a big fight with Soc's, and expelled Soc's to Mexico. This fight not only let Soc’s out of prestige, it make them dare to bully Greasers. I think the rumble is important because it is a battle of honor between Greasers and Soc’s. To win the rumble means they get back their dignity.
  • Johnny died

    Johnny died
After the rumble, Ponyboy and Dally went to visit Johnny, and told him the good news. Doctor told them Johnny is dying. The reason why I think that Johnny’s death is important is because Johnny is a Greasers and his existence has special meaning to other Greasers. His death led Dally’s death, and this also pave the way of the following.
Johnny told Ponyboy stay gold, and this is also an important clue of the whole book.
  • Dally died

    Dally died
Jonny is the pure land that he wants to protect most in Dally's heart. After Johnny died, he committed suicide. The cause of his death was robbing stores, holding a gun without a bullet in the confrontation with the police, and the police were shot and killed him. Ponyboy into a mental disorder because their death, so this is a huge climax of the novel. After that Ponyboy changed a lot because everybody is important for him. Violence is not the way to change destiny.
  • The second time to chat with Randy

The second time to chat with Randy
Randy went to visit Ponyboy, and talked to him. Pony still didn’t believe that Johnny has already died. I think as a Socs, Randy is different with others. Randy is a good Socs, and he always handles things very justice. The reason why I think it is important is that Pony was fortunate enough to have known a “enemy” who had taken care of him like his brother, and helped him a lot in the whole event.
  • The letter

    The letter
Ponyboy found the letter left by Johnny. He wanted Ponyboy to tell Dally that there was a good thing in the world, and he did not regret dying in order to save the children. The letter meant a great deal to Ponyboy. He decided to tell their story, and let people understand Greasers. He wanted to write the theme to help other children who ache for something better.
