Ponyboy--a timid ,poor,fourteen-year-old guy.His Osecond-oldest brother,soda,who is sixteen-going-on-seventeen.And Darrel,his oldest brother.Ponyboy love Soda more than others,even his mom and dad, they died cause anauto wreck. Johnny and Ponyboy both are Greasers which poorer and wilder than the Socs,Socs is the rich West Side crowd,they wear rings, drive cars.

Nevertheless, Greasers wear their hair long and put grease in it. They dress tough, steal, and get into gang fights. They often carry switchblades, mainly to help them stand their ground against the Socs.They are different gangs ,Ponyboy remind an experience that Socs pulled his hair and asked him "do you want
to cut hair?"Ponyboy was bullyed by the Socs, he will never forget it.

Ponyboy as a narrator, tell us what the different between two gangs, Greasers and Socs. This is reason of begining this story. Ponyboy's family makes him became a mumber of the Greasers. He treats this gang as his family to rely on it. when Ponyboy meet some difficulties,he recall the gang rather than his real family mumber in the first time. Greasers and Socs have a large gap of rich and poor. The Socs always look down upon on the Greasers and buly them.This is the introduction of this novel.

In the evening, Ponyboy, Johnny and one of the Greasers, Dally go to movie theater.A pair of Soc girls sit in front of us, Cherry and Marcia. Cherry is a special girl for Ponyboy, she is different from other Socs, she has kind heart. Cherry attracted Ponyboy deeply. They talk a lot.Ponyboy tells her about the time the Socs beat up Johnny. The leader of the gang that beat him, Ponyboy says, wore a fistful of rings.

Cherry looks distressed and assures him that not all Socs are violent like the Socs that beat Johnny. She also tells him that Socs have problems just as the greasers do. Ponyboy change a little his mind about the Socs.

Ponyboy, Two-Bit, and Johnny walk to Two-Bit’s house with Cherry and Marcia so that they can give the girls a ride home. Ponyboy tell Cherry about his family.After that they talk about the different between the Socs and the Greasers.Ponyboy realizes that, although they come from different classes, he and Cherry watch the same sunset and sunrise.

At that moment,A blue Mustang cruises by the group, this belong to Bob and Randy, Cherry’s and Marcia’s Soc boyfriends.Ponyboy notices that Bob wears three heavy rings on his hand. The greasers and Socs nearly get into a fight, but the girls agree to leave with their boyfriends to prevent violence.

Ponyboy walks home and finds Darry furious with him for staying out so late.Darry is very angry, Ponyboy and Dsrry fight each other.He feels sure now that Darry does not want him around. It is after two o’clock in the morning. Ponyboy finds Johnny who lives with his abusive alcoholic father, agrees to run away without hesitating. The boys decide to walk through the park and determine whether they really want to leave.

2:30,they walk through the park. the boys see the blue Mustang again,they feel dangerous is coming.Five Socs, including Randy and Bob, jump out of the car and approach them. A Soc grabs Ponyboy and holds his head under the water. Ponyboy feels himself drowning and blacks out.

When he wake up,the Socs have run away. He is lying on the road next to Johnny. Bob is lying beside him full of blood.Johnny tell Ponyboy he killed Bob.They have no idea where they go,they decided to find Dally. Dally tell them take train to Windrixville, an abandoned church.They fall a sleep fast.

An important letter

Dally bring a letter to Ponyboy and Johnny. The letter told them that the police is finding criminal who murdered Bob.Dally tells them that a state of open warfare exists between the greasers and the Socs, they will fight resently.Cherry thought Bob's death was not Johnny's fault,she will be their spy.

Birth of the hero

Johnny tell Dally that he wants to go back and admit his crime. Dally wants to change Johnny's mind. At the meantime, they see the church firing.They think might the a cigarette butt burned it. A adult yell "some children are missing!"Ponyboy and Johnny jump into the church through the window to save these children.Dally stand out and pick up the kids who are saved in the fire. When they save the last kid, suddenly, the roof fall down. Johnny push Ponyboy out the church, hurt himself.

As Ponyboy recover consciousness, the teacher tell him that fire burn his jacket and hurt his back.The teacher call Ponyboy and Johnny heros, but Ponyboy said:"No, we are juvenile delinquents."

Darry and Sodapop
arrive. Sodapop hugs Ponyboy, and Darry cries, shocking Ponyboy. Ponyboy realized that he
has not angry with him. Darry is strict because he loves Ponyboy and wants him to succeed.
He feel happiness and feel the warmth of family.

Ponyboy has suffered mild burns.The children's teacher Jerry always stay with Ponyboy.
Ponyboy tell him that he is one of Greasers, and the experience of killing Bob.Jerry agrees
that Johnny killed Bob in self-defense. when Ponyboy start to smoke, Jerry said you is too
young to smoke,you should stop. Ponyboy has never heard this before.

Dally and Johnny was sent to the hospital, Ponyboy was worried about Johnny

About on 8th, June, Dally and Johnny were sent to the hospital cause they saved children in the church and they were hurt. Ponyboy, Sodapop and Darry were sitting in the waiting room to hear how Dally and Johnny were. Then they knew Dally would be okay after two or three days, but Johnny was in critical condition. Ponyboy was very worried about Johnny. Johnny is Ponyboy’s buddy, he couldn’t leave Johnny, Johnny’s critical condition prompted readers that maybe he would die and if Johnny died, may

Randy told Pony something about Bob and he also said he hates the duel between Greasers and Socs, there is any good from this thing. And Ponyboy said Randy is not a Soc, he is a real person. Maybe everyone has forgot how to do a person who has correct thought, they don’t know who they real are, they just know they are Greasers or Socs.

On the one hand, people may think Cheery is miserable, but on the other hand, Cheery is a traitor to her own kind, she has gave up spying for Greasers, and she should understand that it was not Johnny’s fault to kill Bob. Although Ponyboy know her feeling, he is upset for Cheery.

Cheery met Ponyboy, she asked how was Johnny, she said she wouldn’t see him when she know Johnny was not so good because, after all, Johnny killed Bob, her boyfirend. Cheey also said that people only knew his bad side, but sometimes he could be sweat and friendly.

After the fight Ponyboy went to the hospital, Johnny would die.

Johnny wanted Pony can be kind, whatever people as Greasers or Socs, they should kind. People cannot change their nature. It’s not important who won, the most important is the natrue cannot change to bad. Johnny would die, he had no chance to experience hi life, but he anted Pony can live a kind and gold life.

All above means that Ponyboy and Johnny needn’t flee, and people think they are heroes. Changing from murderers to heroes, the cost is to be put to boy’s home, and they cannot be greasers. But we can see the attitude from Ponyboy is that they don’t want to be heroes and they hate to leave the gang to the boy’s home.

Two-Bit and Steve came to Pony’s home, they told them some news.

The next day morning, Two-Bit and Steve came to Pony’s home, they said that the newspaper was covered with their stories--- Juvenile Delinquents Turn Heroes. And because they saved burned children, nobody cared they have killed a person, the government wanted to put Ponyboy and Sodapop boy’s home.

Ponyboy and Two-Bit visitd Johnny, he still in a critical condition. Johnny thought he would die soon, then he told Ponyboy he didn’t want to die, sixteen years aren’t long enough, so much stuff he haven’t done and so much things he haven’t seen, although, he had thought to kill himself. What Johnny said moved the readers, Johnny is only sixteen, it is obvious that he will die at once, all misfortunes were caused by the hatred between Greasers and Socs. Johnny is

Greasers won Socs, Pony went to the hospital to visit Johnny, But Johnny would die. Before Johnny die, he said to his buddy Ponyboy that stay gold. Then Johnny closed his eyes. Johnny must have read Pony’s book, the book said nothing can stay gold, but he wanted Pony can, everything is changing, including Pony.

Dally was stricken dead, then Ponyboy has lost two friends.

Dally was striked dead, he is on purpose because he cannot bear the pain of losing Johnny. Dally has died, for the whole gang, they lost the leader, Greasers wold have something large change, even they will be destroyed, you know Dally was such a tough person, he could always deal with some terrible things, he was a great leader, the gang need him. For Johnny, he lost two feriends. Because of Johnny, Dally died. Maybe Pony wouldn’t take it.

After one week, Randy visited Pony, they mentioned Johnny.

Randy visited Ponyboy, they got to go see the judge tomorrow. Then they mentioned Johnny, Pony said he killed Bob and Johnny didn’t die. We think Pony said he killed Bob cause he felt guilty to Johnny, after all, Johnny killed Bob for Ponyboy, and Ponyboy thought the died people would be him not Johnny. Although Pony was saved by Johnny at that night, he is more painful that Johnny, everyone doesn’t want to lose their buddies especially their buddies lose for themselves.

Next day on the court, Randy told the same story and stuck mainly to the truth, expect they said Johnny had killed Bob.

Pony wanted to told the judge the truth that Johnny killed Bob, but he didn’t have chance to say a lot. The reason why Socs said Johnny hadn’t killed Bob is that they have forgiven Johnny, Bob has died and Johnny has died too. Socs and Greasers didn’t have need to argue for the two died people. Socs and Greasers were both sad, anything was end. Pony still didn’t have a chance to told the truth, but we think he would understand Socs just as Socs understand Pony that he said he killed Bob.

After some times, there always has a fight between Ponyboy and Darry. Inexpertly, Soda felt sad.

Ponyboy was told that he must wrote a essay about this term or he would be dropped out, but he thought drop out is not bad, he could works like Soda. But Darry was angry, he didn’t want to Pony be dropped out, then they started fight. At that time, Soda felt sad, he thought he should get out. Maybe Darry and Pony should pay more attention to Soda, Pony always talked his problems to Soda, but he didn’t pay attention to Soda, this part told readers that we should pay more attention to our friends;

Jonny told Pony that there were lots of good in the world; he still had a lot of time to make himself be what he wants. And Johnny wanted Pony to tell Dally that saving those kids was worth, people should always stay gold. What Johnny said was just the novel’s theme, whatever you are in a what social state, you should be a kind and simple person, like Johnny and Pony, although they are poor and not be respected, when others have troubles, they still can help them.
