The Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles is what brought World War I to an end. It ended the conflict between Germany and the Allied Powers (France, Great Britain, Russia) After the end of WWI Germany had to pay reparations, no longer have a military, and took away Germanys colonies. -
Hitler takes control of Germany
Hitler comes to power by seeking to the people of Germany. He wrote short essays and gave public speeches in beer halls. He proposed the Jews were to blame for the economic depression, weak government, and social shame. Many people were mesmerized and inspired by Hitler. By 1932, the Nazi Party became the largest political party in Germany. Hitler became the chancellor of Germany. Hitler also silenced a lot of political rights and freedoms of the German people. -
Invasion of Rhineland
Germany marched into the rhineland which violated the Treaty of Versailles, Great Britain and France were in total confusion on what to do. Instead of fighting back the nations allowed Germany to control the Rhineland in exchange for Peace. -
Anschluss
Hitler announces the union between Germany and Austria. Germany will take full control. The chancellor of Austria believed siding with Hitler would prevent a German Invasion on their country. -
Munich Pact
Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, French Premier, and British Prime Minister signed the Munich Pact which Czechoslovakia was handed over to Germany in the name of peace. -
Invasion of Czechoslovakia
German Troops marched into Czechoslovakia and seized control over the country. -
Nazi-Soviet Pact
The Nazi Soviet pact was when Hitler (the leader of Germany) and Stalin (the leader of Russia) signed an agreement to not start war against each other and to also control the country Poland. The people did not know that Nazi Germany and Soviet were going to invade Poland which was kept a secret between both leaders. -
Invasion of Poland/Start of WWII
Germany invaded Poland and within weeks the Polish army were defeated. Germany attacked with force by bombing civilians. Britain and France siding with Poland declared war on Germany September 3, 1939. The Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland on September 17, 1939.
