    The situation they were in suddenly became very dire. The four men were very exhausted, hungry, and their hope was beginning to fade. They also faced another series of large waves and even sharks that circled their boat. This all endangered their survival.

    The story began with a group of four men stranded at sea after their ship sank off the coast of Florida. The men- a correspondent, a captain, a cook, and an oiler- are in a small boat trying to reach the shore. They struggle mightly against the elements- mainly the rough waves.

    The men continued to row, trying to maintain their spirits despite the relentless challenges they faced. They also spotted a lighthouse, but realized it did not offer them any help or rescue.

    Their boat came close to the shore. However, large waves made it tough to navigate. They finally made it to the land, but their relief was stained by the death of the oiler. It showed their realization of the indifference of nature to their plight.
