Cicones
Odysseus and his crew raid the allies of the fallen Trojans. after falling asleep on the shores outside the city odysseus looses 72 men to the Cicones. -
May 11, 1240
Lotus Eaters
Odysseus and his men next land on an island where the natives offer a flower that, when eaten, caused the king's men to lose all ambition on returning home, so Odysseus tied up the affected men and sailed away with them until the flower wore off. -

Cyclops
Odysseus and his best fighters next land on the Island of the cyclopes. The king and his men go up to one of the cyclopes home's and demand the traditional gifts Greeks gave to strangers. Enraged, the cyclops eats two of Odysseus' men and imprisons them. during the day while the monster is gone Odysseus comes up with a plan. When the Cyclops returns home he lulls the cyclops to sleep with wine and then Odysseus and his men stab the cyclops in the eye, blinding it. the next morning they escape by -

Aeolus, the Wind King
O dysseus and his men stop by the home of the God of the wind. the men stay on the island for a month. The god extends his hospitality by giving them a quick ride home and a bag of winds. With land in sight one of Odysseus' men open the bag of winds which blows them back to Aeolus's Island. The god refuses to help and the soldiers are forced to sail on. -

Laestrygones
The fleet passes by the island of the Laestrygones who are fierce cannibals. They hurled boulders at the group of ships sinking all but Odysseus's ship. -

Circe, the Grace of the Witch
The surviving ship landed on Aeaea, the home of the Godess Circe. Odysseuss lets his second in command ,Eurylochus, take a platoon of his less experienced men to explore the island. they happen upon the home of Circe, and one of the officers, Polites, suggest that they make themselves knows to be polite. Circe invites the men inside and she offers them wine. The wine turns the men into pigs. Eurylochus, who did not drink the wine runs back to Odysseus to tell him about what transpired.. -

Odysseus confronts the witch in her home. Before he reaches the home hermes stops him and gives him the plant Moly that counteracts circe's magic. The godess aggres to turn the men back in to people, but theyare put into a trance. they stay on the island for a year untill Odysseus begs to let them go. She says she will if Odysseus goes to the land of the dead and hears his prophecy. -

Land of the dead.
Odysseus sacrificed a lamb to attract the blind prophet Tiresias. The secrifice also attracted many unwnated spirits including his mother and onr of his soldiers that died at circe's home by falling off of the roof. He holds them at bay until Tiresias aproaches drinks the blood of the lamb and tells odysseus of what he must do to reclaim his kingdom. After the prophet is finished he talkes to his mother and many other prople that had died. -

The Sirens; Scylla and Charybdis
Odysseus Returns to Ciarce's Island ,and she reminds him of the prophecy. He sets off and before he reaches the sirens he tells his men that if they listen to them they will be so enthralled they will sink the boat, so Odysseus stuffs beeswax in their ears. Odysseus then tied himself to the mast, so he could tell when to take the beeswax out. Once they passed that they had to choose between Charybdis, a giant whirlpool monster that no ship can escape; Scylla, a six headed, tentecale monster that -

Cattle of the Sun God
Odysseus's exhausted men land on the island of Helios's sacred cows. Odysseus's pleads that his men not eat the cows under penalty of death. After months of violent storms the mrn ran out of food, and while Odysseus is out praying Eurylochus tells his men they should want to be killed by the gods rather than starving. They killed some of the cattle and try to give offerings to Helios to apease to him, but as they left the island, the boat was destroyed buy a lightning bolt from Zeus. -

Only Odysseus survived, and he drifted to Calypso's island. -

Calypso, the Sweet Nymp
Odysseus lands on the island of the Titan Calypso, mother of Zeus, who takes him in and keeps him on her island for seven years until Hermes arriver with a message from Zeus telling her to let Odysseus go. She agrees and the Tired king sets out on a raft and eventually lands in the kingdom of Alcinous where he tells his story to him and is helped the rest of the way home.
