This bill aimed to outlaw slavery in territories taken from Mexico. The bill passed in yhe House of Representatives but was defeated in the Senate thus causing a division in Congress. Although, mpt a success it led to the formation of the Free Soil Party. -

Compromise of 1850
This law helped please Northeners and Southeners thus causing the California to become a free state. Congress would not pass laws regarding slavery in the new territory making the fugitive slave act pass. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
The Nebraska Territory would divide the territory into two. To settle the bill, popular soverighty would take place. Proslavery and antislavery crushed for vote. In the picture : slave states (gray), free states (pink), U.S. territories (green), and Kansas in center (white). -
Bleeding Kansas
Proslavery and antislavery people came to vote. Many Missourians voted for slavery in the Kansas territory, slavery won. Antislavery people got mad. -
Violence in Congress
Senator Charles Sumner said a speech insulting proslavery supporters. He made fun of senator A.P. Buttler. A celative of Buttler attacked Sumner. -
Dred Scott V. Stanford
Just recently after his owner died he decided to sue for his freedom because he had been taken to line in territories where slavery was illegal. For this action, it went to the supreme court. Making him loose the case because, he wasn't a full citizen. -
Attack on Harpers Farry
A man named John Brown had been killing proslavery supporters in Kansas. He wanted slaves to fight, later trying to make an attempt to capture a U.S. arsenal. Afterwards, being executed.
