Evidence against Blake
Blake and Betteredge made it to the spot the letter talked about and found the metal box in the quicksand. Inside the box, there was a semeared nightgown with a tag that read "Franklin Blake", his own name. Next to it, there was another letter from Rosanna, which explained her feelings for him, and also how she found the gown in his room and hid it, but didn´t destroy it because it was the only proof of her saving Blake. Blake goes to the doctor
Blake got a letter from his doctor´s assistant, Jennings, telling him to go visit him immediately. Apparently, doctor Candy, who was at the birthday party, had heard about Blake´s trouble with sleep since he had quit smoking. To help him sleep better that night, he secretly gave him opium, but the substance caused him to wander around. Then he took the Moonstone, without knowing what he was doing, and he maybe hid it. At least that´s the theory Jennings and Blake came up with. -
The experiment
Blake and Jennings figured out an experiment to prove him innocent. They thought that if they left everything as it was the night the Moonstone got stolen and gave him the same amount of opium, maybe he would replicate what he did last night and where he hid the Moonstone. They performed the experiment and Blake headed to Rachel´s room and grabbed the diamond, but then fell asleep. This demonstrated Blake´s innocence, but didn´t tell them where the Moonstone could be. -

Inside, they found them man from the bank with a pillow over his head and most certainly dead. But the man was actually wearing a costume, and after taking it off, they found the true thief. It was Goodfrey Ablewhite. Apparently, he had taken the moonstone from Blake during Blake´s sleep walking and used it to pay off his debt, and he had been killed by the three Indians. -
