THE PEOPLE IN THE 15TH CENTURY

In the 15th century, many people believed that the earth was flat. However, Christopher Colombus was convinced that it was round. He believed that you could arrive in Asia by sailing across the Athlantic Ocean to the west.

CASTILE AND ARAGON

Jan 1, 1469

The marriage, in 1469, of Isabel I and Fernando II, called the catholic kings, united the kindoms of castile and aragon.

START THE MODERN AGE

Jan 1, 1492

During their reign, thye Canary Island became part of Spain and the conquest of Granada happened in 1492. The same year Christopher Colombus discovered America.
This marks the begginin of the modern age.

COLOMBUS REACHES AMERICA

Oct 12, 1492

Two months later, on 12nd October, the expedition reached land. Colombus thought he had arrived in Japan, but in actual fact, he had landed on an island in the caribbean

THE 16TH CENTURY

In the 16th century, spain became a powerful empire, the largest that had ever existed.however, near the end of the following century, this vast empire broke apart. Spain lost its superiority in Europe, and was attacked by other europeans countries.

THE REIGN OF CARLOS I

Jan 1, 1516

In 1516 he became the king of spain. However, the early years of his rule were not easy. Frustated by the expanding Lutherans, Carlos I decided to abandon the throne. he divided his empires between his brother and his son, Felipe II.

THE SPANISH EMPIRE

In 1580 the emmpire expanded more when the kindom of Portugal came under Spanish rule.
Each territory in the spanish empire had its own laws and institutions, but they were all ruled by the same king. The king controlled the army, declared war and signed peace treatied, organised institutions and established taxes. However, the king´s power was not absolute.

COLOMBUS SET OFF

On 3rd of August in 1792, Colombus set off with three caravels from port of palos de la frontera, in Huelva.
